Each month, the Quilt Studio Blog will feature members' input into various aspects of quiltmaking. This month's subject is fusible web.
I love fusible web applique. It's so fun and easy to do, with no needle-turned edges. And it looks so neat when you finish the edges with a nice machine blanket stitch.
When I use fusible, however, I invariably get some on my iron. Sometimes I get a lot on my iron. And that can really cause problems later on when the gook comes off on some treasure that you're ironing.
My husband Vann found this stuff for me, Faultless Hot Iron Clearner. It really works. You just squeeze the contents of the tube onto an old (but clean) terry towel. Then run your hot iron around in circular motions on the cleaner. Then move to a clean section of the towel and rub to remove all traces of the cleaner. Voila! A clean iron plate.
Now click on this link and visit the Quilt Studio Blog to read about other quilters' experiences with fusible web.

I use this all the time and I keep the used washcloth on the end of my ironing surface... I can wipe my hot iron over it to get just a bit of sticky off without opening a new tube...

This looks like something that would be more readily available than the stuff I use. I'll look for it in the store. Thanks!

Wow I admire you! I don't think Momma or me own an iron. You are the DG. (Domestic Goddess)

I swear by this stuff and it is so easy to find in the local WalMart. I used to try using steel wool and that didn't work as well and was a lot messier.
Glad to read your blog again. I've gotten so far behind since I was in the hospital last summer and I miss you all.
