For the Love of Friends

Bee Prayer Quilt Today was my quilting bee's annual Christmas party, held again at Sally's. What a wonderful morning we spent, enjoying friendship and good food. The highlight of the meeting for me was Vann's Prayer Quilt, shown at left. Sally made it, then had bee members, guild members, and other friends of mine and Vann's sign notes to him to attach to the quilt. You can see some of them on the bottom of the quilt. (Click on photo for a larger view.) Others are in a pocket that Sally sewed to the backing.

Vann was overwhelmed when I gave it to him. "The only way I can ever thank all these people," he said, "is to get well." (And the whole congregation said "AMEN!" )

If anyone reading this would like to add anything (a note, a Bible verse, a line of poetry, or just your name) to Vann's prayer quilt, e-mail me at suscleve@aol.com and I'll give you the mailing address.

We have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with Vann's surgeon. We're hoping he'll have the results of the biopsies so that we can get on with treatment.

We are so very blessed by your prayer offerings, and we lift you up to God every day. Please continue to pray.

I would like to share this comment that my beautiful friend Kai left in response to "Plucking Daisies."

"I believe maybe it's the same as with friends. We are so reluctant to allow our friends to do for US because we think we are the ones who should give to & do for them. But a friend told me once that I was being SELFISH to not allow my friends the JOY of helping ME. That stuck in my head & I've never forgotten that it IS as blessed to receive as to give. I guess I just never considered that before. And I love the reminder that we need to give God or the Great Spirit or Buddha or whatever name we call the Creator the opportunity & the JOY to prove HIS desire to care for US. I will remember to pluck daisies on my own behalf, but also continue to pluck them for you & Vann! MUCH LOVE, Susan!"

Thank you, Kai, for such a lovely comparison. I have an ornament hanging on my front-door Christmas wreath that says, "God gives us friends to show us that we don't have to walk alone." He certainly has given us an abundance of them. Thank you all for being our friends.

And this comment from a dear friend, Trudy Neill:
"Have you ever sat in front of a fireplace and watched the glowing embers? One old log can burn brightly for a while, but then as it loses its energy, the flame lessens and so does the warmth it provides. But...add another log, and the two join forces and the flame rekindles and the flames glow forth and heat in all its glory is there!!!! So it is with love, and prayer...one prayer is wonderful, but the joining of more than one prayer, gives off so much energy it flies upward to the heavens. May your week be warmed with love and the prayers of all of us.
Love,
Trudy
"

Thank you, Trudy. I love your warm and beautiful word image.

And finally, here's the annual picture of the Piecemaker's Quilting Bee.

Susan ~ what a special quilt project for your friends to work on for you and Vann! And what a treasure of memories it will be to you both as you continue on with whatever the Lord has for you on this journey. What a comfort to know that so many folks all across this country are praying.

That healing quilt is a generous & lovely reminder of the friends who made it & the strong, positive thoughts it holds for Vann's returned health! What a beautiful group of quilters! Much love today to you and Vann. I am eager to learn the biopsy results so we can all know EXACTLY where & how to focus our prayers!
