Date Night and Devilled Eggs

1192131  Every now and then, Vann and I feel the need for a "date night." Just the two of us for a night out. Last night was date night. First we had dinner at one of our favorite BBQ restaurants. Then we took in the new move "Appaloosa" starring Ed Harris and Viggo Mortenson.

Although we both love movies (me especially), we don't often go to the theater. We wait for the DVD or Pay Per View. But we do usually manage to make it to the movies to see new Westerns. The last movie we went to the theatre for was "3:10 to Yuma." See?

"Appaloosa" was fun. If you're a "Lonesome Dove" or "Butch and Sundance" fan (we are), you'll like it--although I do not claim this movie to be as good as those two classics. It's still good entertainment. The plot: Two old lawmen/gunmen buddies team up to save a town from a bad guy, then one of them falls in love with a loose woman, Allie played by Renee Zellweger.

I have spent this Saturday morning in the kitchen, making deviled eggs (and you all know how I hate making those things). Seems like every time our church hosts any kind of function where there's eating involved, I get tapped to make deviled eggs. I think it's some kind of message from God, but I haven't quite got it translated yet. Anyway, the eggs are done and delivered. Now I'm about to start sprucing up my living room and putting out the fall/Halloween decorations. My quilting bee meets at my house on Monday, so I want everything to look nice for them. They will not, however, get deviled eggs for refreshments.

Ah come on...what better for halloween than "devil"ed eggs? I bet my hubby would enjoy that movie too, maybe its time we go on a date. We used to do that at least once a month, but have just gotten out of the habit.

I purchased a fall panel today and some coordinating FQ's to make a wall hanging to go over my fireplace. Found a beautiful set of pilgrims for the mantel - I am really in the mood to decorate too. Ah, but got chores to do first, sigh.

Hope all goes well with your quilting friends.

Brando made a movie called "Appaloosa" back in the '50s or '60s. I assume this wasn't a remake, as I don't remember Marlon's movie having much of a plot. Date sounds like fun. I haven't had a date since Watergate.

We're having an all day date today! Cleaning out the garage!!! Oh, and taking football game breaks.LOL

The movie sounds great! I love all of those actors.

Can't help you with the divine deviled eggs. Maybe you get asked because so many like them. Just a thought.

Wes and I watched "Red River" last night! We are also fans of Westerns. We even made a special trip to Monument Valley a few years ago, with soundtracks from old Westerns playing on our CD player as we drove. My oldest daughter and I loved "3:10 to Yuma". We look forward to seeing this movie.

what is it about making deviled eggs that you don't like? for me its peeling the danged things..but we found out a trick for peeling them that is pretty cool...after you boil them, while they are still hot, cover the eggs with ice...put the pot top back on the pot and SHAKE like you are making popcorn...after a while the shells will be a million little pieces and will just slip right off..the occasional egg needs a little rinse to get some shell fragments off..but its sooo much easier than peeling one by one...
After that, the rest of the deviled egg making is a snap!

Hey! Did you post a comment on my blog? If you did, will you please repost it? I think I accidentally deleted it...I'm in Macon using hubby's laptop...and not using it very well! Thanks!

Wow, Susan. I didn't realize so many days had passed since I've been by for a visit. Thinks are ridiculously busy for me right now.

I'll tell my husband about this movies. He really likes a good western.

Oh, my mother needs some deviled eggs to take to her church homecoming Sunday. Would you mind helping her out with that? :-)

I think it's wonderful that you & Vann have date nights! Gosh, I cannot remember the last time I actually went to a movie. Oh, wait! Yes, I can! Smoke Signals. That's been quite some years ago. Eeeeks! (Heehee! It just hit me that you go to Westerns - I go to Indian movies.) And yum-o! Devilled eggs! LOVE making them, LOVE eating them! I volunteer to help make some!

Spotted you on Southern Mom's site. I am a Bama blogger too. Wanted to say hi.

Deviled Eggs are hard for me because they seem to be something that should be made 'to taste' and I don't eat them. And don't they stink things up when you make them!

I told my husband he needs to see that movie.

Went to see Appaloosa based on your recommendation and we liked it. I like Ed Harris and it did have a "Lonesome Dove" quality to it. Thanks for your recommendation! PAM
