Today is the 17th National Quilting Day, sponsored by The National Quilting Association, Inc.
I always try to set this day aside to work in the sewing room, but I don't think it will happen today. I have too many other things to take care of.
But here's a UFO that I found hanging in the sewing room closet. It contains some hand quilting I did in a workshop with Alex Anderson at the American Quilter's Society Show in Paducah, Kentucky. That was years ago, in the mid-90s.
I also want to show you a new gadget that I gave myself for a birthday present. It's the Sidewinder, and here it is.
It came in last week, but I still haven't tried it out. I just put the thread spools and bobbins on it to set up the photo.
The Sidewinder is touted as a way to thread your bobbins without unthreading your sewing machine. That's what caught my attention. You know how aggravating it is to run out of bobbin thread in the middle of a project and have to unthread the machine needle to fill your bobbin.
But now a thought comes to me. Unless you keep two spools of each color/type of thread you plan to use, you're still going to have to unthread your machine to get the spool of thread off to put it on the Sidewinder. Hmmmph! Oh, well, it's still a cute little gadget, isn't it? I'll let you know whenever I get around to tryiing it out to see how well it works.
I got a disturbing call from Lori this morning. She called to tell me that our
sweet doggy friend, Miss Daisy, had had a seizure. Lori was on her way to take Daisy to the vet. The seizure lasted only about 30 seconds or so, Lori said, and Daisy seemed perfectly fine as we were talking. But we're worried, naturally. We get jumpy around here when one of our doggy pals is in trouble. So please say a little prayer for Miss Daisy that she'll be fine.

I've seen those advertised and thought it would save a lot of frustration. Hope that cute doggie is doing all right.

Don't wait too long to try your new sidewinder.
I have one and LOVE it. You will want to wind
every bobbing you have and go buy some more.
It's sooooo much fun.
I lived in Eatonton, GA where Uncle Remus was
born. Want some more rabbits? We lived there
10 years and what a collection.

You could get lots of extra bobbins and wind several before starting a project?! Or as you suggested, two spools of thread. I've seen it advertised too...it looks cute. Let us know the secret once you have tried it. Miss Daisy is in our prayers.

Thanks for visiting my blog through the Typepad site. I've been exploring your blog and see all your "little friends". When I read about Miss Daisy, it made me sad for a second and then I thought ... hey ... she needs to know that I have epilepsy and it's not a big deal. I take medicine and haven't had a seizure in a LONG time. I get acupuncture for my bad back, but needles are put in to treat my seizures as well. I'll be back to see how she's doing - please let us know.

I've heard of the sidewinder. It looks pretty nifty. I love the look of the quilted piece at the top. I'm ready to try something like that, really plain, kind of, white on white is so elegant. I just seem to get bored without a lot of color. I think an intricate pattern would satisfy, though.

Ooh I just got a sidewinder too. I love my sewing machine but the bobbin winder on it stinks, a lot. I haven't used mine yet either but am so excited at the prospect! I hope that Miss Daisy feels better soon. She's quite the cutie.

Your hand-quilting is beautiful! Thank you for reminding me about Ntl. Quilting Day...a great excuse for me to quilt instead of dusting the house today!

You will love the sidewinder I think. I use the same color thread for all of my piecing so I usually wind 10 bobbins at a time of that color and then I don't worry about it until they all run out. I like your hand quilted piece. What are you going to do with it?

Oh goodness, I'm sending prayers for the little Miss Daisy.
How do you like that sidewinder so far?
