My grandnephew (great nephew??) called me on the telephone this morning. I answered the phone and there was nothing for a little while. Then I heard all this babbling. Somehow, I knew it was Reed even though I couldn't understand a word he was saying. Then in the background I heard India (my niece, Reed's aunt) say, "Say hi to Aunt Suzie." Then Reed said "Hi Aunt Suzie. Bye." and hung up. I was so tickled that I ran to the living room shouting, "Reed said, 'Hi, Aunt Suzie'!" Vann said, "I know; I was listening." I was tickled pink, and so was Vann.
It reminded me of the times, years and years ago, when Buffy (Reed's mom) used to call me from Centerville (long distance) when she was about Reed's age, maybe a year older. Her mom (Ramey) finally asked her how she knew how to dial my number. "India taught me," said Buffy. So now India's teaching a new generation of toddlers to be phone savvy. At least I'm not long-distance any more.
