It's Sumertime, Summertime, Sumsumsummertime!

Guild_display

I hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday week. Vann is going to smoke a pork shoulder (he gave up cigarettes years ago) on Wednesday.

Funny story (I think): When we were shopping for the roast to cook, we found a hunk of pork with a lable that read "pork shoulder butt roast." Now I don't know a lot about meat cuts, but isn't something wrong with that? Can you have a shoulder/butt combination in a roast. I guess maybe it was a very short pig.

I've been working on the Church Directory this weekend, mostly typing the membership roster, which has to be put in the proper form for the printer. I love typing, but not lists and tables that have lots of numbers--which is what this is. It's slow going, and I'd rather be in the sewing room. I'm lagging behind on lots of project. I haven't finished even one of the quilted church banners, and Thanksgiving (my deadline) will be here before I know it. I'm looking forward to a Red Rooster Quilting Retreat in August, so I can get a lot done then. Nothing to do but sew, visit, and enjoy the wonderful Red Rooster cuisine.

I wonder if Hell is any hotter than Alabama in the summer. (I hope I never find out.) We've had thundershowers the past two days. Maybe a half inch of rain, all told. Not enough to break the drought; but as somebody said, "Some is better than none." I think maybe that's from the new Stephen King book I'm reading, Blaze. Actually, it's a Richard Bachman book. I think since the cat has been out of the bag for years, Stephen should just stick to writing under his real name. But hey, some Stephen King is better than none, I say. I love his books, my favorite being The Shining. I'm so glad he didn't die when that van ran over him a while back.

I have a busy Sunday before me, so I best slug down my second cup of coffee and get in the shower. Everyone have a great Sabbath.

P.S. The photo above shows the snack table decorations at the June quilt guild meeting last week. Virginia B. did them. She's very good at stuff like that (and cooking).

I do empathize with the "Hotter than Hell" notion, yesterday it was 106 with 9% humidity. Almost turned down an offer to go shopping until I realized that the stores keep the AC cooler than I do at home, lol.

I do my pork in the crockpot. I put it in to cook very eary in the morning, add liquid smoke and seasalt, turn it on and walk away. It makes the most delicious smoked pork!!

Have a great day.

The butt IS the shoulder. I don't know why they call it that, but it is. I learned that on Emeril.

Stay cool.

Typepad shows my old dead email, so I should tell you it's rian.ammerman@att.net

Hi!
South Carolina and Alabama....yes, we might be experiencing temperatures that are "hotter than hell"....or at least the humidity is! What I'd give for a mere 9%!
