Back With the Living

I'm much better today. Even went to church, then out to lunch with Vann, Lori, and Bynum. We ate at the new restaurant whose name I can never remember. One of those places where you're expected to throw peanut hulls on the floor. I hate that. I had a sirloin salad with honey mustard dressing. It was yummy. So now, down to business.

Here's the fabric I bought while at retreat to use in my March Elvis 12x12x12 journal quilt. Guess what my title is.

Dsc_0090The Elvis noveltry prints on the left were my first choice. I got them at Hancock Fabrics on my way to Camp McDowell. Then when the quilt shop lady came, I found the prints and solids on the right and decided they would work really well too. But when I put them together, I don't think the colors in the two groups work well together. So I think what I'll do is use one group for the front and one for the back. Maybe.

Actually I never know what I'm going to do until I do it. I envy people who can make a plan for an art quilt, perhaps sketch it out on paper, then sit down and create it just as they planned it. I plan mine, usually even sketch them, but the quilt never looks anything like the sketch (which could have a little to do with my sketching talents).

Anyway, I'm anxious to get on with this one. I think it's going to be fun to make, whatever it turns out to be. I hope to start tomorrow; but the laundry basket runneth over (again), so that will have to get done.

Gripe for the Day: Is it just me, or does anyone else think those spam blocking letters that you have to type in to leave comments on blogs are a bit reminiscent of the eye charts at the optometrist's office. "Now is that an n, or could it be an h? And what's that little thing that looks like a cicada molting?" I mean, what's the point in making them so hard to decipher? Don't they know that they're just as hard to read to good people as to spammers? Cheez!

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. I agree the spam blocking codes can be really hard to read. I try thinking of them as typing tests -- when I can read them, at least!

yes, I agree about the codes--the ones on wordpress are the worse (unfortunately) because the background is colored and they put a line through them sometimes. I just turned mine off.

I have Hawaiian prints should you need some-holler.

I like the new look - very fresh. Glad you're feeling better, and love the fabric. Oh, and "Amen" to the Gripe of the Day!

Designing quilts your way is more exciting than preplanning. There are a number of preplanned quilts that I've never even started. In my mind they were already done and held no promise of an exciting adventure.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to retype those code letters because I didn't interpret them correctly. Arrgh!
