Vann left for Texas this morning at 5:00. He and his buddy Jerry go out there every year about this time to visit a rancher they know and do guy stuff. Sophie and I are on our own for the week. I got up thinking I would take full advantage of my first day sans hubby and get started on the church banners or the king size quilt--or at least straighten up my office or sewing room. But, you know, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day, so I knew there would be yard sales all over the place. So I walked Sophie, grabbed a sun hat, and started making the rounds. I found some pretty good stuff--not a lot, but enough to make the day worthwhile.
Below you can see the shabby chic pillow cases, four pink/white striped placemats, a florist frog just like the one Mama had when I was a kid, and a pretty ceramic necklace. The lot cost me $3.75.
Here's a wonderful green dragonfly bowl that I happened upon. $5. A little steep for a yard sale item, but I'm so crazy about dragonflies, I had to have it.
I found these little goodies ($1 for all three) in a big tray of junk and thought I could use them in journal quilts or altered books or someplace. They were just too great to pass up.
And finally, the pieces de resistance, two terrific blue McCoy pottery flower pots. I paid the lady $6 for the one on the left, and she gave me the one on the right because it has a couple of chips. I think I'm going to plant African violets in them.
On my way home, I stopped by Chick Filet and got a big chicken sandwich and came home and shared it with Sophie. Now we're waiting, Sophie and I, for a visit from Diane the Mobile Dog Groomer. Sophie is so shabby. Her front legs and tummy are a mess where they were shaved for the IVs and ultrasounds. And the rest of her hair has grown way too long.
We didn't get any sewing done today--maybe tomorrow. We'll see.

I love a yard sale! I hit the thrift store Friday and came home with a good haul.

Great booty! My grandma used to have a frog like that, too.
I used to use a mobile groomer for Riley until I discovered they use cold water. No wonder he protested so much! But it was very convenient!

Thanks for the trip around the yard sales... I so rarely have time. You found some fun deals.
