Another Quilt on the List

283634809_10225706621426834_8383137864650293833_n

Yesterday I posted a photo of this quilt online for someone who wanted a black/red/white design to make for her son-  I didn't make this one- I found it on Pinterest- A good friend and neighbor saw the photo on my Facebook and asked if I would make her one-- I said yes-  It's not like I don't already have enough UFOs to keep busy until Gabriel blows his horn but I couldn't say no- Karen and her hubs have been good friends for over 20 years-  They did so much for Vann when he was sick and they have done things for me since Vann has been gone-  It's an easy quilt--just cutting strips and sewing them together-  Quick and easy-

Karen doesn't quilt--doesn't even sew I think- But she's certainly not lacking in creativity- She's an absolute master gardener and she's great with home dec too-  Plus she and are husband are two the best cooks I know-

So after the quilt show--June 2-3--I'm going to put this project at the head of the line-  I think my stash probably has most of the fabrics I need- I might have to buy a few more black/white prints and a proper backing- But I know I'll have a good start- I look forward to making it-

What a great quilt! You know its name could be "Black and White and Red All Over"! Nice of you to make this quilt for your helpful friends and nice, too, that you know what colors they want. Perfect! Enjoy the process!
I've made one heart for the "I Round a Quilted Heart" project and in looking for fabrics for that, I found 17 Rail Fence blocks sweet AMIL made. There were also two strip sets so I could cross-cut those for another 8 blocks. I have enough blocks for a 40"x 56" quilt that will go to Quilts Without Borders. They finish and send quilts to children all over the world and I think that would please AMIL.

Covid Hair Gone

HairBefore

HaircutAfter

After about two and a half years I finally got a hair cut - I have to say I feel better without that long horse's tail hanging down my back - I'm not sure I'm totally satisfied with the look but it'll do for now - I will probably get Alana to trim it up a little when I go back

No exciting news here other than the haircut - Time in the sewing room has been almost nonexistent lately - I still haven't finished binding "The Dance" quilt and the quilt show is fast approaching - I'm going to have to lay off cooking and laundry and running errands and doctor appointments and get with it

So after I update the "Books Read" list (left sidebar) I'm going to get with it

Looking good!!! Enjoy the breeze on your neck now that your hair is so much shorter!
Wishing you well on the binding. I'd come help you if there weren't mountains and a lot of miles in the way.

The Day of the Mom

Granny_missouri_ella_isbell_and_george_walker_a_large-Happy Mother's Day Granny Ella

We had a nice mother's day-  Daughter Andy came over with apple pie and ice cream= I made spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread- Andy and Jesse and I chowed down- Then Andy and I watched a movie-  It was an excellent day

Of course we missed all the moms and grandmoms who are no longer with us  Above is a photo of my great grandmother (my dad's granny) Her name was Missouri Ella Isbell-  She was born in 1871 in Shelby County Alabama and died in 1961 also in Shelby County- I don't believe she ever left the state-

I hope everyone of you out there also had a fine day and that you had strong and influential women in your family as I did-

We had a lovely day yesterday and thought fondly of the wonderful and dearly departed women in our lives, some of whom we never knew as they departed before we arrived.
DH's maternal grandmother was named Hiawatha Samantha and she was a force to be reckoned with for DH's first 57 years of life and 36 years of my life.

Hugs!

Nice day for you...Love the pic of your great grandmother. I had a couple of cold hot dogs, talked with my Aunt Christy on the phone and cleaned up the carpet from Etna's deposits! Just another day, really...

What's in the Cards?

We came home on Saturday--a day earlier than we had planned  The weather became iffy--cloudy with showers-  So since Angela's prime motivation for going to the beach is to lie in the sand and sun she got a bit bored-  I never get bored no matter where I am or what the weather is like-  I always have books to read quilts to stitch and if I get tired of those I can usually find a movie or tv show to watch-  I truly don't recall the last time I was bored

But anyway Andy got antsy so we returned a day earlier than we had planned--where I found plenty more to do-  After I got all the laundry done I started working on the decluttering project that Jesse and I started several months ago- The first phase of the project was upstairs--moving the sewing room to the spare bedroom and redoing the old sewing studio for Jesse a entertainment lounge--I think that's what he calls it- That phase is almost complete--just a bit of fine tuning to go

Now Jesse's entertainment room is so nice and neat and organized that I'm determined to do likewise downstairs in the living room/ dining room/ kitchen/ and my bedroom-  Trouble is that for the past several years sister Ramey and I have developed a thrift store addiction-  And now I have way too much do-dads/ what-nots/and falderal/  things that were bought on a whim or that I've lost interest in/ things that re totally useless in my life now have got to go-  Some are going back to thrift stores/ some to family and friends-

Under the category of "to family and friends" I realize that I have never thrown away a greeting card--at least not in the past 20-30 years-  I have zillions of cards--Christmas cards/ birthday cards/ Halloween cards/ etc etc etc- For a while I was into paper crafts (altered books/ art journals/ etc) but now my crafting interests are limited to quilting and fabric crafts- I'm pretty sure I will never use any of these cards

So before I toss them I'm offering them here-  If you are into paper crafts or for any reason could use a big box of old greeting cards speak now (that is leave a comment saying you'd like to have the cards)-  If you're the only one to respond you'll get the cards; if more than one person responds I'll put the names in a bowl and have Jesse draw one-

I plan to fill a large USPS flat-rate priority mail box for the winner-  If in fact I have enough cards to fill two or more boxes and if there are several entries there will be more winners
