"Little pig, little pig, let me come in."
I have a lot of October traditions and activities: changing out the hanging quilt in the foyer to one of my autumn/halloween quilts, changing the wreath on my front door, first pot of chili, setting the Jack-o-Lantern on the front porch, and more. One of my October traditions is to watch Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." I'm watching it right now, but I must say, after 35 years, it's getting a little predictable. I can recite the dialogue right along with the actors.
"You are the caretaker, Mr. Torrence. You have always bean the caretaker."
But one thing remains the same after all this time: I still think Jack Nicholson purposefully turned the character of Jack Torrence into a farce. Anybody who has read Stephen King's book knows Torrence is a very sympathetic character, albeit a troubled one. Nicholson portrays him as a hateful psychopath. I also don't approve of what Kubrick did with Dick Halloran. I don't know why I keep watching this movie. Time for a replacement tradition, maybe.

Good riddance to a bad character.
Of course, Alabama football is another October tradition around here. Today, Bama travels to Athens, Georgia to take on the Bulldogs at my husband Vann's alma mater. This was about the only time that Vann and I ever disagreed on who should win a ballgame, foot or base.

I agree about The Shining movie. Nicholson overacts, the good guy gets killed. Still, it's hard to resist watching it.
