Before I hopped in the car and beat a path to Hancock's for more navy fabric, I decided to just check and make sure that the background pieces that I cut were not going to work for my owl quilt. So I traced, fused, and cut out the pieces for one owl, and, as you can see, the 10 1/4"-wide background strip is plenty wide enough to accommodate the birdies. And since this is a wall quilt, not a bed quilt, the length of the finished piece won't be an issue.
So no trip to Hancock's was necessary after all. And I have decided I don't have to retire from quilting just yet.

Happy dancing and virtual cartwheels because you'll continue to make quilts AND that your background fabric was cut large enough. After all, "enough" is what counts!! Love your first birdie and applaud your focus and success in making him.
Watching the rain forecast here and hoping Hurricane Joaquin stays out at sea.
Hugs!

Glad everything worked out!!! I understand the frustration in cutting incorrectly, but it happens to everyone along the way!!
