I am blessed big time to be a member of Birmingham Quilters Guild. So much talent is represented by these men and women. I would not be the quilter I am without all that I have learned from knowing them. I love them all. Here is some more of their output that was featured in Quiltfest 2015 a couple of weekends ago.

There are still many more great quilts to show, which I will do in the days ahead. But for now....
Here's the New Idea

I have always loved Mandalas, but most of them are so intricate that I'm intimidated by them. One day not long ago, I was looking for something on Amazon.com and happened upon this children's coloring book of Mandalas and ordered it right away.
The book contains 30 different Mandalas, and many of them are animals: birds, frogs, dogs, cats, elephants, fish, bunnies, and I don't know what-all.
I'm going to choose maybe 12, maybe 20, trace them onto Kona cotton squares (Snow, probably), and color them with Crayola crayons to make quilt squares. Then I will probably outline the sections with black embroidery thread to give them a stained glass look. Can't wait to get started.
By the way, I have had that tin of Crayola crayons for many years. I bought it for the Mary Englebreit tin and have never had occasion to open it. The cellophane wrap is still on it. I think this is the perfect occasion, don't you.
As usual, you'll be able to follow my mandala progress here at Blackberry Creek, if you care to.
Oh, and I have to give props to my friend Becky from whom I got the idea. Remember that gorgeous quilt of Jesus in the Garden that I showed a while back, done with crayons. Here it is, if you've forgot.

At first, I had wanted to make one like Becky's, or something like it, for my church. And now I remember that I was looking for a Jesus coloring book when I came across the Mandala book. I might still do the Jesus quilt for church (I found a sweet coloring picture of Jesus with children that I would love to do), but first I'm going to do the Mandalas.
From the complaints department: I can no longer get the <center> function to work with Typepad. It shows centered on my compose page, but when I publish, my post is no longer centered. What's up with that?

Hi Susan, just wanted to let you know I watch for your blog every single day and enjoy it so much. But often I can not see the comments left or make any myself. I have no idea what the reason is for that at all. Take care, Trudy Neill of Windermere Farm, Shelbyville, Indiana.

What glorious eye candy these imaginative, varied, and well done quilts are! It's a treat to see them on this rainy morning so I thank you.
Love your thought to color mandala designs. It sounds like lots of fun.
How did I miss the ME Crayon tin? I have the older Crayola tin that was made for some special occasion back in the 1980s (I think) and to, too, still has the cellophane wrap on it.
Hugs!
