Tying Up Loose Ends

Labels

I'm working on getting the last details (hanging sleeves, labels, thread clippings) done to my quilt show quilts. It's not easy. Every time I go into the sewing room, Sophie starts barking for me to come back downstairs. She doesn't like to climb the stairs herself anymore since she came down with arthritis. I am now a dog caretaker. She won't sleep on the floor; she has to be in a chair. And every time she gets down to go get a drink of water, go outside, eat, or bark at something out the window, I have to help her back up in her chair. She can no longer jump up. Bless her heart.

UnknownOn Sunday afternoon, I watched a movie entitled "Still Alice." You might have seen it. It's a very good movie about a woman who is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer when she is only 50. I became so interested in the subject that I decided I must read the book. So I downloaded the Kindle edition and read it on Sunday night and Monday morning.

Yesterday afternoon, I watched another movie entitled "Wild," a true story about a young woman whose life was on a downward spiral when she decides to hike the 1000-mile-plus Pacific Crest Trail all by herself, in an effort to get back on track. Very very good movie, starring one of my favorites, Reese Witherspoon.

I was so taken by the life of this woman that I decided I had to read that book as well. So now it is download to the Kindle, and now I'm going to read it.

Good for you in finishing the last details to ready your quilts for the upcoming show! If your stairway has a landing, you might want to put a chair or bench there to provide a place is sit a bit midway up and down.

Bless Sophie's little hips, legs, and paws! Might you get a footstool or doggie ramp to give Sophie a boost into her favorite chair?

Since my mother had Alzheimer's I probably won't read or watch Still Alice. Been there and find it better left behind than revisit. I hadn't heard about Wild but it sounds interesting.

Am planning a Christmas quilt and think I dreamed up the borders last night while I slept!

Hugs!

Great idea Barbara Anne, I wouldn't have thought of it. My mother had a Scottish Terrier, Lad, who went blind in his old age and she carried him everywhere. It was a labor of love for her as Laddie was her other child.

I read "Wild" some time early last year and it didn't strike me as anything extraordinary. But then, I've read a number of books about folks (male and female) hiking the Appalachian Trail or others. I need to take a look at the movie. You might enjoy a book called "Looking for Alaska" by Peter Jenkins. His book inspired us and encouraged us as we were planning our trip to Alaska in 2008 and added immeasurably to our experience there. We were first introduced to Mr. Jenkins and his writings in his first book called "A Walk Across America", written when he was in his early 20's. I still think it is his best work.

I'm also a sucker for William Least Heat Moon's works.

I read the book Wild some time ago and it was really good. I've got to catch it on PPV before it stops running. It was still on last time I looked. Still Alice looks good as well. Only saw reviews about that. (Speaking of good movies/shows: do you watch Doc Martin? On Netflix but has run on PBS. I'm in Season 3 now. Very good - comedy/drama/mystery (diagnosing why all the people in the village come down with the same thing at the same time...)
