Puzzling on Chickens

FullSizeRender
Sometimes when I don't feel like climbing the stairs to the sewing room and sitting at the sewing machine, this is almost as fun as making quilt. I love this chicken puzzle. I would like to have some real chickens. If I ever get my energy back, I just might get some. My mama had chickens when I was a little kid. I used to like it when she would let me help feed them.

My grandmother kept chickens too (and guineas). I remember her chicken pen and coops, one of my earliest memories.

Just think: a yard full of foul and fresh eggs every morning.

This is my favorite kind of chicken, the Dominecker. A beautiful bird.

But alas, as long as the energy stays away, so must the chickens. I can barely deal with dogs and cats these day.

I thought the guineas were the most fascinating birds. They weren't pretty like the chickens, but I liked to listen to them.

We've thought of trying to raise chickens, but a friend who has chickens of various types has told tales of how much care they require and how many seem fine one minute and they're deceased the next - especially during the winter. That doesn't take into account some end up in stew pots.

I agree that the feather patterns and colors are astonishing and the fresh eggs are delicious.

Wishing you spoons aplenty for all you want to do.

Hugs!

I would love to have chickens too but the only drawback is they attract snakes and I hate snakes. There's also the hawk that has a nest in the trees surrounding my house and I know they love chickens. We always had lots of them when I was growing up and I loved collecting the eggs, especially the big brown ones. So I've resorted to just having a huge collection of the ceramic kind in my house. They're everywhere.
