You Are Cordially Invited...

Hey-girl-i-heard-you-have-a-backache-so-i-took-off-my-shirt...to my most recent Pity Party. I know my readers get tired of me whining and moaning and complaining. But it's my Pity Party, and I'll whine and moan and complain if I want to.

This whole month has been one great big bundle of pain. And this time it isn't so much due to the fibro as it is to the back pain. It has been truly debilitating. I have spent more time in bed the past couple of weeks than I have in my adult life, I think.

The trouble is that I can spend no more than five minutes, sometimes not that long, on my feet without the pain becoming unbearable. So the bed or the couch are the only places I can find relief.

Yesterday, I determined to get some stuff done, pain notwithstanding. So I did a few household chores, washed and dried a few loads of laundry, changed my bed sheets, and cooked dinner and made Jesse's lunch (he's on night shift this week). Yeah, it hurt. It hurt a lot. But I had made up my mind and I wasn't going to let pain do me it. But it did. Do me in, that is.

By the time Jesse got off to work, I was bent double with pain. I thought, no big deal. I can just get in the bed. As soon as I'm off my feet, the pain will stop. It didn't. In fact, it got worse--and worse--and worse and worse and worse till I thought I was going to have to call 911.

Thank goodness for that Vicodin prescription that Dr. N. wrote for me almost a year ago now. The bottle was still half full, so I took one. It takes a lot of pain to get me to pop a Vicodin. I know that some people take this drug for recreational purposes, but it makes me feel yukky and itchy and drowsy, and I don't like it.

But it deadened the pain a bunch. I slept pretty well last night and woke up practically pain free--until I got out of bed that is. Five minutes on my feet and the pain paid a visit. But I learned my lesson yesterday. No housework today. No nothing that requires extended periods on my feet.

I am going to try to get just a little sewing done. Just a little. Then I'll take to the couch and read until time to make dinner. Rigatoni is planned, the making of which requires maybe 20 minutes of on-feet time. I figure if I space out the cooking among a couple of rest periods, I can make it.

Thanks for putting up with my whining. Y'all are friends extraordinaire.

Oh, I am so sorry your back is giving you so much pain that it's difficult to do much, if anything.

Considering you had such extreme pain last night and because it's Friday, perhaps you should call your doctor just so he knows.

Seems that I remember you have a medical cause for this pain, in which case these measures might be of minimal help, but they cannot hurt ...

In case some of the pain is on one side more than the other, it could be due to kidneys so be sure to drink plenty of water, tea, or lemonade - beverages that abound in water.

Perhaps if your mattress is too soft, that could be part of the problem, too. Before getting a new mattress, have Jesse put a 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" plywood under your mattress. AMIL had to get rid of her pillow-top mattress and get a firm mattress to help her back. She also started using only one pillow rather than the two pillows she was accustomed to. Both measures helps a lot.

I hope there is something easy that will banish the back pain and that isn't Vicodin. I am guaranteed to fall asleep an hour I take something like that. Have you tried an anti-inflammatory like Naprosyn (need food in tummy) or a muscle relaxer like Flexaril? Those might help the pain without making you feel drugged.

Wishing you WELL!

Nancy Nurse over and out!

Hugs!

I'm so sorry, Suze. Wish there were something I could do to help. If you need me to run errands or grocery shop or anything, holler. Love you.

Hi Susan - I'm so sorry to read that you are having so much pain. You're not whining, you're sharing and those of us who have suffered pain are fully able to comprehend. My version is not back pain, it's gosh awful migrane headaches and the all too frequent kidney stones. See, we all get something right? But pain is PAIN... and when it comes it is very up close and personal! I'm adding you to my prayer list and I pray that you will get relief very soon.
Wishing you blessings and healing mercies from above.
Linda

It happens to me so much. A friend and I text back and forth and because of autospell, "pace" yourself has become "pass" yourself. Which we do regularly. We constantly pass ourselves. Sounds as if you passed yourself yesterday, as I also did. Today I remembered the correct spelling and acted accordingly, I think. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry to hear that your back has been hurting. I understand about trying to avoid those pain pills. I'm almost four months out from double knee replacements and thought I'd be doing better by now. Sometimes I have to give in and take a pill. Here's wishing you better days ahead.

Oh, my goodness.... hope things get better, I know it is impossible to be cheery when in that kind of pain (or any really) I take vicodin like you do.. sparingly, I like it too much as it does such a good job of letting a person rest and heal... take care, get better..
