I missed quilt bee meeting on Monday, but Cyndi took photos so at least I got to see Show & Tell. Here are a couple of shots.

Our Quilt of Valor after being quilted by Mary S.

Martha's Block of the Month win (red/white blocks) paired with her black/white nine patches made a lovely quilt.
I am loving my new wide-screen, high-def tv and my Roku streaming player that Santa brought me a little late. But I'm finding that the new setup is changing my life, and maybe not all for the better. Since I now have access to all the movies and missed tv episodes I can ever want to watch, I'm not reading nearly as much. Well, actually, not at all in fact. Except for news and stories I read on the internet, my reading has been cut to zilch. You might have noticed that I haven't added one new book to my book list in the left sidebar of this blog. That's because I haven't read even one book this year.
My nephew, who got his Roku a while before I got mine, says I will get tired of it and run out of good movies and shows to watch. So maybe then I'll get back to my book reading. For now, I still plan to enjoy watching movies and tv dramas that I haven't seen. It's such fun!
For the past couple of weeks, I've been watching "Dexter," a tv series about a police blood spatter analyst/serial killer. The show is very interesting but also very disturbing--not only because of the obvious fact that it is about a serial killer (well, actually, several serial killers and murderers) but also because one never is sure whose side to be on. Dexter is in many ways an engaging and charming character, and one tends to want things to turn out well for him. Sometimes I find myself rooting against the "good guys." Of course, Dexter only kills bad guys, so that helps make it feel all right to root for him. Still, I'm aware that vigilantism is counter to our entire system of social justice, therefore Dexter is, in fact, a bad guy. (There's also that nagging little fact that the boy obviously enjoys his kills.)
But the show doesn't play him up as a bad guy. He's a loving husband, father, stepfather, and brother. What's not to like? Well, except for the killer part, which Dexter calls his Dark Passenger. The show has made me wish I was back in college so I could write a analytical paper on Dexter. If you aren't skittish about shows about murder, you might enjoy this one. I'm about to start on the last season, and I'm very nervous about what's going to happen to Dexter. (If you know, please don't tell me.)

It's good to find a new post! I was about to write and ask if you were okay.
Bummer about missing the bee meeting, but those things happen sometimes. Love the quilts and it was so nice of Cyndi to send you photos!
Haven't seen even episode 1 of Dexter but we're thinking of leaving cable TV behind due to cost and invest in Roku or something of the sort. ACORN offers BBC shows for something like $80/year and that appeals to us.
We have heat again, but next week our dear boiler that gives us HOT water will leave as it's plumbing is ancient and fatally flawed. We'll get a heat pump, a water heater, and a payment plan but that beats being cold.
Hugs!

Hey lady...I was watching the news last week and sure enough some of the footage was from Leeds! I said to myself I know a lady who lives there!! What a mess and a reminder of the power of Mother Nature and the stupidity of some lowly humans.
Anyway, enjoy the watching ... you deserve a break ...
At this time out here in California I still can't figure out why no one has invented a cost efficient way to unsalt the ocean...computer is telling me that unsalt is not a word...but I don't care. Take care.

When we got Roku a few years ago, I think it was all my husband watched for two years! LOL It's great. Your nephew's right - after a while, it will run out of steam (not enough to get rid of it, mind you), but you will be able to do other things - ha ha! I thought it was one of the best presents we ever got!
