Nine Patch Fun

A lot of good stuff came out of Monday's bee meeting, in addition to what I showed yesterday. One of the best was a decision on how I'm going to put together the quilt I'm making from Vann's shirts.

B3Our friend Martha was showing her Disappearing Nine Patch quilt (photo at right) when Sally turned to me and said, "You could make Vann's shirt quilt that way."

If you're not familiar with the Disappearing Nine Patch technique, follow this link to Cluck Cluck Sew, where you'll find great instructions. It's a much fun and easy technique, and there are many ways you can put the resulting blocks together for different effects.

You start with a basic nine patch quilt block, like the one below that I made from some of the shirt squares.

Then you divide the block crosswise in the middle in each direction to make four units.

As I said, there are oodles of ways to put these units together. Here's a link to a Google Images site that will show many of these.

I have decided to put the shirt quilt together in a way that looks as if I've put squares together with sashing and cornerstones. Like below.

If UPS keeps its promise and my package is delivered today, tomorrow's post will be about something else from Monday's bee meeting that tickled my fancy and spurred me to action. Keep your fingers crossed.

Love the pattern plan for the shirt quilt! It's amazing, how many things you can do with the disappearing nine patch.

I love your start to the shirt quilt! I am fascinated with disappearing nine patch and as a beginning quilter find that I am drawn to the types of patterns that are sewn, cut, and put together in different ways.
