I don't like to make resolutions. Too much pressure. But I do like goal setting. It helps to have a target to shoot for. My target for 2013 is better health.
Hardly a month of 2012 has gone by that I didn't find myself feeling worse, physically, than the month before. I hope to reverse that trend this year. This flu has hit me harder than any cold or flu I can remember; and I'm sure the reason is that I'm in such poor physical condition.
I don't have a plan mapped out yet, except that I know it will include healthier eating and more exercise. I've already cut out artificial sweeteners. When I need something sweet, I will use sugar, and not much of that.
I have cut out much of the processed food from my diet. But I'll see where else I can cut. More whole grains, more fresh fruits and veggies.
And exercise. That's going to be the hardest thing. Because of the fibro and the back problems, any kind of exercise for me is usually very painful. I'm going to start with walking and try to build up to 10 miles a week by the end of the year. If I find that to be undoable, I'm going back to the heated pool at Lakeshore where Vann and I used to go. It's a long drive, but if I plan trips with other things I need to do, I think I can make it work.
WIsh me luck. I know I need this. It won't be too many more years until I'll hit the big seven-oh. I'm hoping to be the picture of health by then. Well, at least of better health.
I'm going back to lie down now. I still have to gauge my level of activity against by body's stamina. I get tired very easily since the flu thing hit. But it's getting better. Every day, it's getting better.
HAPPY BRIGHT NEW YEAR to all my blog readers. I love and appreciate you all.

Cheers that you're feeling a bit better each day! The flu we had knocked the stuffing out of us, too, and recovery time was annoyingly long.
Best wishes on your self improvement plans! Even with the limitations you and I are afflicted with due to a low spoon count, eating healthy fresh-when-possible foods and moving (aka exercise) is bound to do you good.
Our food plan to to have small quantities of meat with a fresh cooked veggie and tossed mixed greens salad for most evening meals. We're going to try to eat 3 very light meals earlier each day as spreading calories intake across the hours is healthier, too.
We love and appreciate you, too.
Hugs!

Whew, I was afraid you'd gone into the hospital. Glad you are at least on the road to recovery, and it's great to see your new post up.
I like your goals, because even though they are tough to actually do, they are attainable. I especially like the goal of 10 miles a week, and I might just adopt that as my own.

Wishing you luck with your goal. I so enjoy your blog (and book reviews -- just finished and thoroughly enjoyed Second Glance thanks to your sidebar review!), and hope 2013 brings good things your way.

Hope you feel much better very soon..take it easy for a couple of weeks.
You might consider not eating wheat...there is much evidence that it causes a whole host of issues...the wheat we get in flour and bread products these days is NOT the same kind of grain we had as kids or our parents had. It's a mutant..(read 'WheatBelly') I have not had a single day of fibro pain since I stopped eating it...wheat and gluten are hard to avoid...but it CAN be done.

SO glad to see you post! I was keeping you in my thoughts (I ALWAYS do, but especially when you aren't feeling 'up to snuff') and hoping to see an update! Don't overdo! I like your goals & believe slow & easy with small changes will do the trick! LOVE YOU!!!

Happy New Year Susan...boy do I hear you about the flu...I can't seem to get rid of it either. I think your resolution to get healthy is great! I'd really recommend exercising in water as that's much easier on your joints. You might want to consider taking a pilates class too - I have got rid of chronic back pain that I've suffered from for almost 20 years. I can't say it's fun, but it's at least gentle and it works!

Feel better. My vote is heated pool for a slow start and only start walking 10 minutes a day for a week adding in gradually as fibro world permits.. Praying every day you feel better..

Wishing you a year of improved health- one has to pace one's self- I have cut out some foods that were giving me some health issues and feel better for it( mostly dairy and some meat) and am trying to eat less sugar ( not counting the Christmas chocolates LOL) and more fruit and vegetables( something I do fairly consistently) My clothes are getting looser so something is working in spite of the Christmas chocolates.
All the best in 2013,
Warmest regards,
Anna

Hi Susan...I was just wondering if you've ever thought about giving up all wheat in your diet? Wheat has been shown to contribute to diseases such as fibromyalgia. The "Wheat Belly" blog has some great information on it. I hope it's ok if I post a link for you. I've been wheat-free since September and I feel great...so much more energy. I hope you feel tons better soon! http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2012/02/take-more-fiber/
