This doesn't really qualify as a UFO, but at least the idea is a carryover from last year. You might recall that at some point I was pondering what kind of wall art to use in my sewing room. I have a very long wall on one side, and right now it's bare. I had once planned to put together a bunch of quilt-themed jigsaw puzzles, mod podge them, and frame them for the wall. I got so far as putting together a whole bunch of puzzles, and mod podging some of them. But my search for thrift store frames for them proved futile. Just couldn't find any that would work that weren't truly expensive. So I sort of put that project on hold--or, more specifically, in the basement.
I really like the easier idea of embroidery hoop art--framing pieces of some of my favorite fabrics in embroidery hoops and hanging them on the wall--like this...

So every time I have found some embroidery hoops for a good price at the thrift store, I bought them. So this week, I started hooping the fabric. And there it is. In the first photo. But I have a long way to go. I figure that wall will hold at least 100 hoops of various sizes. But I might use some other art (miniquilts, etc.) along with it.

Little Green Quilter Blogless Barbara finished this great little UFO this week (photo above). Of it, she says, "This 12" center was found in the book "Favorite Christmas Quilts from That Patchwork Place" (1999), page 93, and in that book it is called Twinkling Star. I made it as a test block before making a similar block for a seasonal 12" block swap with quilting friends in TX. I chose border fabrics months ago and even cut one of the two, but sewed them on just today."
Below are two more UFOs that Barbara has completed during the past two weeks.

A Schnibble entitled "Mon Ami"

Hi!
Love your hoop framed fabrics! What a great idea so favorite fabrics can be seen and enjoyed daily. My small sewing room walls are full with tall furniture, 2 wall hangings, 5 quilt posters from various sources, quilt trivets, quilt plates, small Celebration! porcelain quilts, a variety of framed pictures, and a few small plates. It's good the walls are white, because they are barely visible.
Thanks for posting my progress on the Valentine pink/red finish and the two little tops that were completed. The 3" fan quilt blocks were paper-pieced (eBay purchase) so the finished top is just 18" square. The Santa Star is 17" square.
I'll be back to visit the Little Green Quilters who link up.
Hugs!

Susan ~ I've seen hoops done this way and think it's really fun and makes a very nice display! I have zero wall space right now though.
Barbara ~ wonderful finishes! Love the pink and red! Did you use it for a table topper for Valentine's? It would be perfect. Maybe you can do more sewing if we get snowed in on Sunday! Our area of Virginia is 5 - 8 inches expected. I wonder if you'll get almost as much.

Hi! I've linked up twice...one is this week's post and one is last week's post.
Hoops with fabric are so cute. We made miniature ones with Christmas fabric to hang on the tree this past season.
Barbara has some lovely finishes. The Santa block is gorgeous, perfect framing for a quaint Santa pic, and I especially like the fan quilt blocks. Really great way to lay them out!

Wow, Barbara is on a row. I like your hoop
frames. I like the last picture layout, but I guess that wouldn't work if you have a big wall. Try to link up when I get home from work.

Great that you are feeling better! I don't have much to show this week - actually nothing. But I put my link in and you are welcome to go see what I put in for last week. Happy stitching!

Great progress Barbara!
I think fabric framed in hoops is an excellent way to decorate you sewing room Susan! 100 hoops means 100 nails though, or are you planning to hang them in some other way.

Sorry to hear about your hospital stay. Glad everything turned out ok.
I have missed your blog. In Dec. my laptop would not power on so had to get a new one in Jan. This new one would not let me do anything but read messages, sometimes not even that. I live in area where dialup is all that you can get. Long story short, got a satellite.

So proud of Barbara and her sewing accomplishments...she inspires me daily! I have seen hoop hangings before like yours and find them very interesting. .,,,especially when vintage prints are used. My old farm house with ancient lathe/plaster walls would not do well with that many holes however. Hope you are feeling better!

I love your embroidery hoop art and will be decorating with them soon. What a great idea. I wonder who came up with it.
