The Rest of the Blocks

String Blocks

Here's what I plan to do with the string blocks that I didn't use in my Santa quilt (which, by the way, I have entitled "Family Portrait"). My quilters guild has a program called Cuddle Quilts in which we make quilts for various children's charities, women's shelters, etc., in our area. Each guild member is asked to make at least one cuddle quilt each year. I have turned in one this year and have two ready to be bound. I fell behind in my cuddle quilt donations during Vann's illness and death. I mean to catch up and get a little ahead, just in case.

I have to go to the grocery store today--one of my most dreaded chores. But I have to go. I've put it off as long as I can. The cupboards are might-near bare. Guess I'll go to WalMart. Ugh!

I also have a pile of laundry to get through. I let that pile up during the holidays, washing only what I really needed. So now I have at least an all-day task to get caught up.

And it's cold here! Colder than it has been all season. And, of course, you know what that does to the pain factor around here.

Tomorrow night, my friend Loribelle is coming over. We're going to work on binding and adding a sleeve to the quilt she has made for her new grandbaby. Lori is a new quilter. Nothing like grandbabies to bring out the craftswoman in us.

I'm headed to the shower. Gotta get to getting. Stay warm, everyone.

Susan, Do you sew those strings to a foundation or just piece to each other and square up? I've got a bin of 2" strips and wanna get goin' on them! Wendy

The string blocks make a real cute baby quilt, someone going to love it. Remember to lock your purse in the Walmart buggy with the child safety strap. I guess someone could still steal it but they would have to put an extra effort to do so. Wrap that strap around your handles several times and close it up (purse).

Whomever receives that cuddle quilt is going to be a happy person. Love the color in it. Stay warm! Teresa

What a happy, jazzy quilt you're making from your remaining string pieced blocks!! Nobody could be glum when wrapped in that cheerful quilt!

I'm sorry you cannot wait for a warmer day to go to the grocery store. Bummer! Be safe, and perhaps buy the essentials and two splurges so you don't have so much to carry up those steps. I've started buying frozen concentrated OJ because it's lighter weight than the pre-mixed juice. I don't want to haul water!

Aren't new quilters fun to be with? Their amazement and joy with fabrics and the possibilities are contagious. Welcome to the Sisterhood, Loribelle! Yes, there are a few brothers mixed in!

Hugs!

Susan,
I am wondering the same thing that Wendy asked. Did you use a foundation such as muslin or just sew and square up? They will make a wonderful quilt for someone to love.
It is so cold here ... BRR!
Hugs,
Donna

I have had such problems trying to post to your blog, Susan, I gave up for a time. Let me try this and see if it works now. Love the string blocks, what a good idea using them. The Santa panel you got is so cute and you put it together very quickly I thought. Super cold here in Indiana as well, thank God for the woodburner and infrared heat.
