New Year at Guild

BOM Sign

The first meeting of the new guild year was held yesterday, and what a busy time it was! I had a head full of hats to wear at this one. I felt like, as the late great Vann Cleveland used to say, a cat covering up for ten.

First, I was stuck at the back table for most of the meeting, signing up members for the Block of the Month program. I got around 75 participants.

I also had to give my committee report before the membership (tell about BOM) and talk about my show-and-tell quilts (my quilt of valor, my smackdown quilt, and "Let Freedom Bark").

Then when all the business and show-n-tell was concluded, I was one of four members who gave a panel talk entitled "Lives and Times of Well Seasoned Quilters." I suspect "well seasoned" is just another way of saying "old," but we had a lot of fun relating our lives as quilters and what we'd learned during them.

Another day, I'll show you the quilt that I showed members during my part of the panel talk. It is a bow tie, one of the first quilts I ever made (couldn't find my very first one), and it's pretty pathetic. But it's fun.

I stopped by Publix for some grocery shopping on the way home. By the time the groceries were put away and the doggies were fed and walked, I was pretty well pooped. But feeling fine today except for the usual aches and pains. Got a "date" in a couple of hours with my sister Ramey and cousin Paige. Will tell about that later. Meantime, below are some photos I shot at guild yesterday.

Mary J. and her gorgeous heart quilt

If memory serves, which it rarely does, I think this masterpiece is Ruth Ann's.

A Betty K. beauty

Mary U. shows the quilt she made for her son's wedding gift.

Guild8
Another Quilt of Valor (This might be my favorite.)

BQG presents cuddle quilts to Sister Mary of the Sisters of Mercy for a home for mentally challenged people. That's Sister Mary on the left at the podium.

And just because I love it so, I have to show Mary J.'s heart quilt one more time.

Oh My, the quilt I quilted was on display? hopefully, everyone rushed by.

That looks like quite a crowd of ladies. Phew!

Also, will you be sharing your BOM here for those of us that are interested?

And lastly, I just saw the directions last night for the squares QOV in an old patchwork book. Funny how the old is new again. I thought it would be a good scrap quilt-guess I was right!

Your quilt guild looks amazing Susan! I'm so envious - and wish I lived right down the street from you, so I could go too!

I just joined my local quilt guild yesterday at their first meeting of the year! They seem like a lively, active and very friendly group. I am excited to start participating in their activities.

What a wonderful array of great quilts!! Eye candy for sure and add me in as one who envies such a busy and lively group of quilters in your guild.

The Richmond guild is divided into 7 or so chapters that meet in various parts of town on various days and at various times. The whole guild meets together just once a year. Perhaps I should get involved again as I've missed the fun.

I'm also interested in the BOM (as if I need another project). Just today I found yet another UFO. Sigh!

Rest well today and feel better soon.

Hugs!

I'm so glad to read that you had a great, relatively pain free day! It makes all the difference when you are to be around lots of people and activity not having the distraction of pain and discomfort.

I love your guild meetings and the quilt show that inevitably shows up here afterwards!

It WAS a great meeting. And I so enjoyed the program. I thought I had a copy of Quick Quilts, but I must have passed it along at some point. I'm going to look for a copy at the thrift stores just so I can have that introduction that you wrote. It was wonderful.

I think it is a great encouragement to new quilters to hear of all the mistakes our seasoned quilters made in the beginning and how they learned from others to achieve the skill levels they have today. And your bow tie quilt colors are still so charming even though I didn't come up for a closer look. ;-)

That blocky QOV was my favorite, too, and I like this month's cuddle quilt pattern as well.

I just love Betty K.'s dress quilt. I guess because my life is full of girls now. Very cute. Thanks for the picture.
