Uncertain Times Call for Quilting

Earthquake_National_cathedral

Oh my! What a week it has been so far, huh? The Eastern quarter of the U.S. gets rattled by a big quake (which I hear the opposition party has dubbed Obamaquake); Hurricane Irene has drawn a bead on North Carolina; Kadaffi Ghadaffi Gaduffi, Kadafy that old ugly mean guy in Libya has reportedly been deposed by rebels. Oh, and don't forget that Nancy Reagan fell down, and Jada and Will Smith were reported to have separated but didn't. What's next?

All this unheaval, coming as it has on the heels of last week when the stock market and my 401K were doing the hokey pokey, has put my nerves quite on edge. The doggies and I are preparing our survival kits. Mine includes a quilting project and a good book. Their's include doggie treats and chew bones.

I grieve for our Washington landmarks that suffered damage (the Capitol dome, the Washington Monument, the National Cathedral, etal., and especially for the people who had property damage from the quake. Thank God no injuries or deaths have been reported. Now there's your miracle, folks.

I hope everyong along the east coast is just as fortunate when Irene rolls through. Batten down, my friends, and be safe.

I think we all rejoice and thank God that that murderous, depraved leader of Libya with the name that nobody can spell has apparently been overthrown. Let's just pray that the next government will be a bit more people friendly.

Well, the world is indeed a scary place when looked at through the eyes of 24-hour news networks. So I believe that I'll keep the tv turned off today and spend my time communing with a quilt-in-the-making. A friend and co-worker once declared that if not for needlework a lot more women would have suffered insanity throughout history. I tend to agree.

AMEN, sister!

We are just 40 miles from the epicenter of yesterday's quake and I tell you it was the scariest thing I've been thru in decades. In the past, I've experienced two little tremors, but nothing like this one. I was in the kitchen in our tri-level home and the rumbling and roaring was so loud I thought a huge Army helicopter was about to crash into us, then the shaking started and I had to hold the dancing microwave on its shelf. YIKES!! We seem to have no damage but in downtown Richmond many of the wonderful old buildings must be inspected before things are back to normal. The damage in Washington is sad.

I'm hoping and praying that Irene stays out at sea, but that we get a nice lengthy rain and no wind. How is that for specific?!

Today I'm cleaning out an old trunk with the thought of using it for magazine storage. The contents of the trunk are certainly a walk down memory lane!

Have fun with your sewing.

Hugs!

You are correct (on all accounts). My niece felt the quake in Cleveland, OH and my BIL felt it in Buffalo NY, so it was very powerful. Sad what it left behind. Hopefully, Irene will be kind to the east coast.

There were also tremors in California and Colorado. Wonder if they will blame Obama for that. He gets blamed for everything.

You know, I love a good scary movie, as long as it is not just a bunch of gory graphic and has lots of spooky in it. "The Changling" with George C. Scott is one of the scariest movies I have ever watch and there is one scene in it that no matter how many time I watch it, I get goose bumps and my tummy does the flip flops...So what's my point. If I want some REALLY scary TV, all I have to do is turn on a news broadcast, any channel, any day...it will scare the socks off of ya.

You're so right that is was a miracle with no injuries in the earthquake back east (I'm in Utah). As for Hurricane Irene, I am keeping every area and everyone in her projected path in my thoughts and prayers for peace and safety.

You know we raised my two oldest grandsons. The elder grandson left for Air Force Basic Training May 24th and was in the airport in Dallas when it was closed for Tornadoes. He actually watch a few in the distance at the windows of the airport until they moved everyone downstairs to the shelters for a couple of hours. Now he is in Biloxi MS for his Tech School and just found out what his first duty station will be...Andrews AFB, MD. When we talked to him last night, he said, Grandma, you know they say, "Join the Navy and see the world"...well, the Air Force should make posters that say "Join the Air Force and experience all mother nature has to throw at you", LOL. He will be in Biloxi through the first of December, then on to Maryland. I'm sure he will experience a hurricane or two during his tour of duty along the coastal areas he seems to be stuck too. Hugs...

We need the rain so desperately that a hurricane sounds good about now. We are marching into abut 35 days with temps over 100ยบ and no rain all summer. My shrubs are starting to wilt & a small tree has already died. Now we are on mandatory water rationing. It's been a brutal summer.

We had an earthquake in CO too, about 100 miles from where I live. No damage in my neck of the woods and I didn't even notice. If it wasn't for Facebook I wouldn't have even known about it until today. "Ours" happened at about midnight Mountain time and then "yours" was only a few hours later.

We felt the quake here in SC too. All of the seismic guys are saying it was a "once in a lifetime" thing and I sure hope they're right. As for Irene, I hope she sets her eyes on the open waters and just takes off. We went thru Hugo in 89 and those 13 days without electricity were enough to last us for quite a while. We had so much damage. Everybody in our little town are getting new roofs now for a recent hailstorm with golf ball size hail. Enough already! Praying for all to be safe.

So true. Sometimes you have to just turn all the news off and focus on home as an escape. Keeps us grounded.
