Spoon Issues

Wooden spoon broken better

The spirit is willing, but the body has other ideas. I have been without energy for the whole weekend. Yesterday, I didn't get anything accomplished, and I don't expect today to be any different.

I have learned, though--and it has only taken me about eight years to learn it--that to renew my spoon supply, I have to accept the lack of energy, be patient, take it easy, and wait for the battery to recharge. (Sorry for the mixing of metaphors here.)

I really want to be in the sewing room. I woke this morning before daylight thinking of all the projects I have waiting and the plans I have for doing them. At one point, I was even mentally going through my huge scrap bag, picking out fabrics for my Smackdown quilt. When I got tired of that I started mentally rearranging my sewing room. Maybe that's part of the reason for my fatigue; I spend too much time mentally making quilts and moving furniture when I should be sleeping.

The doggie in the picture yesterday with Sophie and Skipper is Daisy. She belongs to Lori. Most of you have seen her before. She comes to stay with us whenever Lori and Greg take a trip. I call her (Daisy) my goddog.

Happy Sunday, everyone. Daisy and I are going to the couch where I left my book. Don't know where Skipper and Sophie are. Probably in the back yard hunting wildlife.

Bless your heart! Giving yourself permission to take time away from lists and chores to recharge and refill the spoon stash is am important lesson to learn. It is part of loving ourselves so you need to refuse any guilt that tries to fuss inside your head. You're not "slacking off" by choice, but resting by necessity. Soon, you'll be able as well as willing to put some of your ideas into practice. I'm having trouble with this lesson, too. Bother!

Meanwhile, enjoy your book and Daisy's snuggly company! Oh, and you might want to jot down those ideas about your quilts and your furniture arranging so you don't have to wake up to think about them again.

Today is too hot and humid to be outside, so I'm going to put up green beans we picked yesterday and perhaps do the hand sewing on the little estate wallhanging's binding. I put hanging triangles on the top back corners of it a little while ago. Hanging triangles beat sleeves for very small wallhangings for ease of sewing on! See www.alzquilts.org for instructions.

Big hugs!

I am not sure about you, but our heat has a lot to do with loss of energy here. I have been so tried lately.

Mentally composing posts and lists of quilt projects keeps me awake sometimes too :) Hope you can be patient and get that spoon meter to full force again. It must be really hard to be on full stop when you want to go, go, go!

When my brain is racing with ideas, I can't rest either.

Do you want to send me a good sized box of your scraps and I'll cut them into blocks for you?
