Birthday, Bee, Baking, and Barfing

The past few days have been a very busy time at The Yellow House. I won't go into full detail; I'll just hit some of the highlights.

Ramey B'day
Ramey with her roses that Paul sent her for her birthday.

We celebrated Ramey's birthday on Sunday at Joanne's house. Joanne called it a cook-in, since it was too dad-blasted hot to have a cook-OUT. We had hamburgers, potato salad, a sort of a pico de gallo with corn (which was, to utilize an old cliche, to die for), and baked beans. Then we had birthday cake and ice cream. It was a beautiful cake decorated with red roses and "Happy Birthday, Ramey" on it. Tasty too.

Yesterday was quilting bee day at my house. The good news is that we had a great meeting with lots of show and tell. But the meeting didn't start out well at all. For a while there, I just wanted to go crawl back in bed and let bee proceed without me.

I got up early, vacuumed, showered, and started cooking. By the time I got my grits casserole in the oven, I was sweating profusely, and the sweating only got worse. I never did get my makeup on since it's very hard to make up a soaking wet face that one cannot get dry. So there I was, pale faced, pooped,  and soaking wet when my friends arrived.

I sat down to rest, cool off, and visit while the casserole finished baking. Skipper and Sophie were so excited (they love company) that they were barking and jumping up for each person to give them a pet. Skipper jumped into Mary S.'s lap just as she had settled in--and promptly threw up on her.

I was mortified, but what does one do when one's dog barfs upon one's friend? I thought I was going to faint; I really did. But Mary took it well. I grabbed all the clean towels I could reach quickly, and my friend got cleaned up as best she could--and the meeting went on. Time will tell if Mary will ever be brave enough to come back to my house. Below are photos of show and tell. You might notice a little camera unsteadiness. But it's a wonder I could even hold the camera, I was that rattled.

hahahaha I just have to laugh at the dog incident. It never fails. Friends are great and have to be flexible.
I wish I were in a quilt group. That looks like so much fun. I guess I should join the guild here in Wichita and maybe then I would be invited into one.
Love the quilts.

Happy Birthday to Ramey! A cook-IN is a stellar idea to avoid heat stroke in the South during the summer. Who has the pico de gallo with corn recipe??

OHHHH!!! I can imagine your upset at Skipper's up-chuck. I'm so glad you didn't keel over and that Mary S. took it in stride.

Beautiful quilts!!! Applause!!!

Stay cool and rested.

Hugs!

Sounds like so much fun! Some great quilts there; I've always wanted to do a neutral quilt. Always like to see the dogs joining in the fun :)

Beautiful quilts.
At least he didn't throw up on a quilt, right. I bet you were rattled. I sweat like that alot.......my face anyway. It is awful.

LOL Sorry but the title of your post made me laugh. Don't worry about the barf. Those of us who have animals totally understand. My Madeline did that right in the middle of our meal one time when we had a house full of people. It went everywhere!!! Nothing you can do but clean it up.
Loved the show and tell. Your lucky you have your sewing bees. How fun!!

Mary S. seemed to handle the whole thing quite well. Please ask her if she used a pattern for her "Masterpiece" as I would love to make one using the exact same colors to hang in my hallway. It is just stunning!

I've missed visiting, Susan. Life has been crazy busy, but I finally made it here.

All of the quilts are great. It sounds as if you had quite an up and down day. I know your friends love you no matter what mishap occurs.

To bad the doggie acted up. At least, it did not get on those pretty quilts. A very nice way to celebrate a birthday. I bet she did not expect that gift.

Well, it looks like a good day despite the dog drama. The dog was just trying to make sure you would remember the day always and you will! I can top it...we went to a friends to spend the night. Kids camped out in there sleeping bags and buddy in the night threw up all over my friend's daughter. So, I can relate to your embarassment, but trust me, your friend will still be your friend because that is what friend's do.

Belated Happy Birthday to Ramey, one of my fave writers! (And we'll have NO using the 'Skipper barfing' incident in future books, Miss Ramey! LOL!) The bd party sounds wonderful & I know it was FUN! I definitely get the heat thing. Ugh! My hair - tho' short - is extremely thick, & if I'm even remotely warm, it gets soaking wet & looks like I just washed it. Mortifying in public to look like a big wet doggy. Speaking of doggies, Skipper just got excited about many nice visitors! I'm glad Mary was a sweety about it! The quilts are fabulous! I wouldn't go so far as to throw up on any of them (LOL) but I would drool over ALL of them! LOVE YOU! Now, rest! Stay OUT of that heat!

Sorry you couldn't enjoy the day fully. Looks like everyone had fun and enjoyed it. The quilts are beautiful, I esp. like the blue one Mary made for her son and DIL. The dog "thing" is kind of funny now, but I'm sure it wasn't at the time. Like children, dogs always know how to embarrass us. Stay cool and if you find a way to not sweat please, please let me know. I have long curly hair and the minute I step outside it looks like I just stepped out of the shower. Instantly soaking wet, clothes, hair and forget makeup, that is totally out of the question.
