Not since Aretha Franklin sang "America" at President Obama's inauguration has there been so much ado about a hat.
Did you see it, that chapeau sported by Princess Beatrice at the royal wedding of William and Kate?
The second I saw it, I was reminded of an old-fashioned tv with a curly antenna, a picture of which I've seen somewhere at sometime. I've been all over the internet this morning looking for that picture but couldn't find it. It was something like this tv and antenna, but not quite.
Actually, Beatrice's hat could be compared to many things--just not a hat. Here are a few images that bring to mind the lady's bonnet.
What do you think that pink thing that Princess Beatrice wore on her head looks like?
By the way, the electricity is back on in my neighborhood. Things are beginning to settle back into normal routine around here. Unfortunately there are many thousands here in Alabama and in the south who won't be able to enjoy a normal routine for a long time to come. Please keep them in your prayers. And if you want to help, The Red Cross is a good place to go.
Some of you asked about replacing my quilt guild friend's fabric stash. Her house was completely destroyed, and she and her husband will have to rebuild. When they are again settled into a home, I'm sure the guild will address the matter. I will let everyone here know when that happens.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and concerns for my state and its people.

Thanks, Barbara. How could I have forgot Ribbon Candy!
And Joan suggests that Beatrice's hat resembles and octopus. Can't argue with that, Joan.

Call me silly, but I thought Princess Beatrice's hat was ridiculous and laughable, not to mention a rude intrusion on someone else's view of the wedding. It reminded me of ribbon candy.
Cheers that your electricity has been restored! All of those who have lost so much remain in my prayers.
Won't your guild friend need somewhere to stitch while her home is being rebuilt? Surely she cannot go months without fabric to stroke and pet. What colors/patterns does she like? Applique? I won't send anything until you say what, when, and where.
Hugs!

Aretha's hat was stunning and beautiful. Beatrice looked like she had pulled an all-nighter, fallen down and twisted up her hat. Eeeuuuchh! Loved the comparisons - find a good shot of an octopus and put that up too!

I thought it looked a lot like either a hood ornament or a victorian picture frame.

The first thing that I thought of was something from The Grinch. I don't know why it reminds me of that movie but it does. I wish that American's embraced hats like the English do. I would love to wear hats but because they aren't in style, I don't want to call any attention to myself!

I'm not sure what I thought it reminded me of because I was so stunned to see such a dreadful hat!!! Obviously some sort of statement on Bea's part!!!!!!!!!!!

It just looked ridiculous. I seriously thought her Mom had her wear it to send a message since she wasn't invited. I did like seeing all the hats.
Glad the power is back on.
Not sure it is where my family lives. So awful. Praying for all those who lost loved ones and their homes.
Have a good week.

Wasn't there actually two hats that were almost the same? Her's and someone wearing a blue one just like it. I love you comparison to the female reproductive anatomy as well as the hood ornament. Think I'll have to visit the south sometime you gals are a hoot! Keep up all the creativity.

Pati, I agree with you! The 1st thing I thought of when I saw Princess Beatrice was "Cindy Who" from Whoville in The Grinch that Stole Christmas.

You crack me up! I give her major kudos for having the guts to wear the hat. If I even wear a completley normal hat, I feel out of place and just uncomfortable. She certainly is the talk of the wedding! I love the TeleTubby comparision!

Thatm was an interesting post. I couldn't resist Princess Beatrice hat looking like an octupus or a female organ. It look more like an artifact of a building to me..
Have a great week.

I have to be honest. princess Beatrice's hat was over done. Overly artistic that it didn't quite fit her.

Princess Beatrice's hat reminds me of a wall mounted taxidermy trophy head of either a Big Horn Sheep or one of those creatures. She gives a new meaning to the expression: trophy wife.
