Dog Day Afternoon

Dog Day Afternoon

It rained and rained and rained all day yesterday. So the dogs, the fibromonster, and I stayed inside most of the day. I did finally get up and do some sewing room work, which gave me a good report for tomorrow's UFO Progress Report, but didn't help the pain and fatigue.

Then, during a break in the rain late in the afternoon, I took the dogs for a walk. This proved disastrous. Skipper houdinied out of his halter and escaped through Jennifer and John's (next-door neighbors) cat door into their garage. I finally caught him when he came out to chase Brad's big labrador, got him back in his halter, started down the street with the two of them, and the tornado siren down on Hwy. 119 went off.

"We have to go back to the house," I told the doggies. Sophie was disappointed by obeyed as the good dog she is. Skipper, as the rapscallion he is, refused--flat out refused. He weighs only 9 pounds, but do you know that it is virtually impossible to move that little beast when he doesn't want to be moved. So I had to carry him most of the way back home, watching the sky for any sign of a funnel cloud.

By the time I reached my front porch steps, I had maybe 1/1000th of a joule of energy left in my whole body. So I put Skipper down, meaning for him to follow me up the stairs if I could make it. I had already unleashed Sophie, and she was standing at the front door waiting for us.

"Nope," said Skip. "I think I'll just sit here at the bottom of the steps and stare at John's cat door over there in hopes you'll unleash me and let me run back in there." The dog was immovable yet again.

So I picked his little mmmmmm up and struggled up the steps with him, expecting the tornado to dip down and get us before we could get into the house. Inside, I fell on the couch and turned on the tv to find out about the tornado. No tornado, no weather warnings at all, just rain and thunder.

And then I remembered: Wednesday is the day they test the tornado siren during tornado season.

Hexies The only other thing that I accomplished yesterday was to make a few more hexie flowers while I watched the movie "Stepfather" on the Reelz Channel during the early evening. (I now have 45 hexie flowers constructed.) Before that, Andy came by, exhausted from work, and petted the dogs, then went home. After the movie, I went to bed and started reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. I'm hearing all kinds of good things about it, and I have to say that although I didn't read much last night before getting sleepy, I was hooked from the very first chapter. It's my book club's May selection.

1000 Pyramids Tutorial

20110413_3

Our friend Debra over at Debra's Design Studio blog has a great gift for anyone looking to make a "!000 Pyramids" quilt, which I've been wanting to make for a long time. This is a very old pattern, which was made by our foremothers as a charm quilt, using cardboard templates and sewing by hand. But Deborah has updated the technique to make her beautiful quilt (shown above).

You can find Part 1 of Debra's tutorial HERE. Subsequent blog posts give continuing parts of the tutorial. Debra has also generously offered to quilt your quilts on the barter system. No cash, just stuff. You would need to talk to Debra for more info on the types of things she'll barter for. But I can tell you that she's not picky.

So that's all for now. The weather forecast promises another stormy afternoon, so I think that means more hexie flowers will get sewn. No dog walking will be attempted today. I've already told them it's the back yard or nothing.

You poor thing. I hope you feel better. The picture of the dogs sleeping is so funny. I wish I could sleep like that, any time wanted to.
Are you sure that Skipper isn't part donkey.
Happy Easter

Too cute! My two take their best naps on their backs a la' Sophie & Skipper! Dogs have a way of making themselves 'heavy' when they don't want to be moved...what's that all about??? So glad it turned out to be a drill and not the real deal!! The weather in your area has been pretty scary lately!

Aren't you glad you got identical chairs so the "kids" each have their own spot?! In retrospect, the walk story is too funny and I suspect you have a book in you!

Love your hexie blocks and you'll soon have a lovely quilt. Applause!

Going to visit Deb!

Hugs!

Don't know if my last message reached you--I was laughing at your fibromonster, because mine is kicking my behind. How do you manage, girl?
