It's a sad time in our neighborhood this week. Our Gene passed away on Tuesday. His memorial service will be tomorrow afternoon. Just a year and a half after Vann's passing, we're going through this again. Gene and Vann were very close, like brothers although they had known each other for only a few years. The sadness is back--sad for Maria, Mike, and Tony; sad for Gene's sister Joanne; sad for Paul and Bob; sad for Sophie, who has lost yet another buddy; just sad.

But it's a joyful day too. My grandson Jesse turns 22 today. What a short time ago it seems he was not even as tall as a drainage pipe. Now he's tall and handsome, an adult. Happy Birthday, Spike.
This afternoon, Andy and Jesse are coming here and we're going to grill steaks. I haven't had a steak since Gene, Maria, Paul, and Karen took me out on the first anniversary of Vann's passing.
I haven't posted much this week, not just because of the sadness of losing friends, but also because of internet troubles. After the phone line was fixed, in just a few hours the internet went out, all over the neighborhood and beyond. It took a while for Windstream to fix that. I'm hoping things stay fixed for a while now.
It has been a dark and cloudy week, with lots of rain and fog. Even though I normally love rainy days, I think we need a little sunshine now. Things are getting much too gloomy.
Remember that tomorrow will be UFO Progress Report Day. Assuming I stay connected to the internet, Mr. Linky will be up in the morning waiting for everyone to sign in and show your progress--or lack thereof.

So sorry Susan. I am sure that Gene's passing alone is hard but it must bring up the sadness of loosing your husband. You know that they are in a better place but that doesn't help how mush you are missing them. Bless you as you go through this.

As ever, life goes on, so Happy Birthday to Jesse! He certainly was a cute little guy and has grown into such a handsome young man. You, Andy, and the whole family must be so proud of him!
Hope the sun comes out, the internet stays connected, and that there is no more sad news.

I thought I'd steal a few minutes from the editing to check blogs & read your posts from the past few days. Andy looks so comfy & adorable all cuddled up with the doggies! And that Jesse is just as handsome as can be! As for Gene, I feel as tho' my heart is breaking, Susan. Only a couple of hours ago, I learned my best friend's husband who is more like my brother than ANY 'blood' brother could have been, has stage 4 liver cancer. (Not from drinking - from his bile duct.) Then I saw your post about Gene. I'm just so sad & sorry. I know tho' that you will be such a comfort to his wife & family! I love you & will be thinking of you!
