I went to early church service this morning, then to Sunday school. I got home by 11:00, plenty of time to get my cake baked that I promised to bring to our Emmaus Reunion Group meeting tonight.
So I got all my ingredients out and started creaming butter and adding sugar and breaking eggs. Just as I was breaking the third of six eggs into the creamy butter/sugar mixture, I heard Skipper's hole-digging bark. I looked out the window and saw only his hind legs sticking out of a hole halfway to Peking, or is it Bejing? Whatever, Skipper was on his way.
Ok, thought I, I'll just let him keep digging until I finish mixing up my cake batter, assuming Robert next door doesn't have a hissy fit and come banging on my front door. So I let the little dog dig. Did I mention that we had about 700 inches of rain yesterday and last night? So Skipper was actually digging a mud hole.
But before I got the last egg broken, the Skipster tired of his tunneling and came running in. I should have closed the back door so he couldn't get through the doggie door, but I wasn't thinking of much except getting my cake in the oven.
I turned off the mixer, grabbed Skipper up before he could spread mud all over the house and headed to the sink. Before I got there, the little guy planted both his front paws on my right arm, leaving big old mud stains all over the sweater that I hoped to wear tonight.
Well I got Skipper washed and got the cake in the oven. While it was cooling, I took Skipper and Sophie for a walk in the neighborhood. No more back yard till the mud dries.
When we returned, I fed the doggies their Cesar and glazed the cake. Now all I have to do is change my sweater and I'll be ready to roll.
The cake looks like it suffered no harm from having it's mixing interrupted for a time. I hope it's as good as it looks. It's Key Lime Pound Cake. I read about this cake on Tina's Cherry Hill Cottage blog. It's a Southern Living recipe, which you can find here. I wanted to serve it with coconut ice cream, but the store didn't have any. So I said, ok, I'll serve it with lime sherbet, but the store didn't have that either. So I'm going to serve it with Breyer's Homemade Vanilla ice cream.
Tomorrow is quilting bee at Mary S.'s house. We're going to make zipper pins. I have my zippers all ready. I plan to take pictures to show you what we get done.
Happy Sunday evening to all.

Susan, The cake looks delicious. I love key lime pies, will have to try the cake. I'm sure everyone will enjoy the cake.
My little Gracie loves to dig, especially in the mud. I just take a pan of water out on the back porch and we have an old fashion foot washing.
Hope you have a good week.

Yeah, Jo, I told Skipper I guess I was turning him into a Baptist (I'm a Methodist) with all the foot washing.

Read your Dan Simmons book, A Winter Haunting. Pretty good. And I also copied that cake recipe yesterday after seeing it. Anything key lime is usually tasty. And with my daycare kids there is a whole lot of foot washing as we take off sandals. Makes them appreciate a clean floor to walk on too. LOL Peggy

Mmmm, the cake looks soooo good! I'm going to have to try that one. I love the idea of the coconut ice cream with it, but vanilla sounds yummy too.

What a yummy looking cake. It shouts SPRING! So, silly question, what are zipper pins? I'm so new to quilting and am learning on my own, but have never heard of them. Wish I could find a quilting group to learn all this cool jargon from!
It's finally looking like we won't have snow anymore...but, that does mean MUD! Maybe I can litter-box train my pug!
Hugs :)

The cake looks great, Byers Vanilla sounds like the perfect ice cream for key lime pound cake, that and some coffee. I'm having the same issues here with Cooper, muddy paws will be running through this house for the next couple of months, our lawn is a wet mess.
Enjoy your sewing bee, I look forward to reading all about your zipper pins!

Too funny about the muddy paws! Hope your sweater comes clean again.
The cake looks divine and I plan to make it after we've eaten up the Mardi Gras King Cake. I LOVE key lime anything!
We had the torrential rain yesterday and overnight. It's amazing that we haven't slid south into North Carolina (globally speaking!).
Do you buy regular zippers for making these pins?
Hugs!

Skipper is sooooo funny! He needs to have his own blog. (He could hand write it with MUD!) Where was Ms. Sophie during his attempt to travel to China? YUM to the cake! Oh! I thought of you yesterday because I made Ray pintos with bell peppers, onion, garlic, chipotles, seasonings, and pork chops cut into cubes. Sloooooow cooked them &, if I say so myself, they were GOOOOD! And I am dying to see what a zipper pin is! Hmmmm! That sounds intriguing!

Susan, that Southern Living issue also has some other pound cake recipes that sound way too fattening! Yes, I'm trying them :)

I adore pound cake! I certainly can empathize with your muddy feet issue. Ozzie pretty much stays out of anything messy, but that Sophie of mine would dig her way under the fence and beyond if she could.

Love your dog stories, you have away of decribing everything, that I feel like I'm there watching it all unfold.
The cake looks yummy, too. Can't wait to see what a zipper pin is.
