A Whole Bunch of Stuff

"I've got more to do than I can shake a stick at," my mama used to say. I don't know why anybody would want to shake a stick at all their chores, but I know just how she felt. That's the predicament I find myself in today.

Skipper Sleeps
While visions of rabbits and squirrels dance in his head...

Sleepy Sophie
"Quiet, SuSu. I'm sleeping here."

But, as you can see, Skipper and Sophie are not bothered by my full schedule. What lives those mutts lead.

I have to get my tax records together to take to my tax lady on Monday. I have to write an article for our Emmaus Community Group Newsletter. I have to finish putting the borders on my bunny quilt; Elayne V., an expert longarmer and member of Birmingham Quilters Guild, has agreed to quilt it for me. And the UFO that is next in line (and should have been done six months ago) is The Jungle Quilt for my friend's baby. The child is not getting any younger.

Jungle Quilt

I did a little cooking earlier in the week--a big pot of veggie soup and a pan of corn muffins. After taking out a small bowlful of soup and a muffin for me, I took the rest to my friends and neighbors on the next street. You'll recall I told you about my friend Gene who was recently diagnosed with a brain malignancy. He is not doing well. Gene and Maria's son Michael suffers from another form of brain cancer, and Maria has her hands full. They would appreciate your continued prayers. And I would appreciate your prayers for them too.

Elizabeth_Taylor_Biography I just received the sad news that Liz Taylor passed away this morning of congestive heart failure. This makes me very sad. I think that with her passing, glamour has left us for good. I will always love her in "Father of the Bride," "Butterfield 8," and so many more films. What is you favorite Liz movie?

I just read about Liz Taylor - so very sad. She is one of the "old" Hollywood glamour girls that I admired, even as a young girl. Loved her eyes!

Your pups are just too cute. Aren't they the best companions?

You asked me if pink roses are hard to grow. My climber is the easiest...just have to spray for aphids and watch for Japanese Beetles chomping on the petals.

Little Women, Elephant Walk, A Place in the Sun - I probably saw every film she made. National Velvet is probably my favorite. I even liked Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof would be my choice because it was the first movie I saw her in, and couldn't believe how beautiful she was, and a really fine actress. She was a beauty before the days of plastic surgery; she was born that way!

Without a DOUBT, Little Women was my fave! I liked her in Lassie Come Home, too. (Stop laughing!) And, hey! Did you realize that, in your Facebook picture, YOU look JUST LIKE Liz Taylor? BWAHAHAHAHA! Sorry! It's been one of those days where if I'm NOT silly, I'm going to pull all my hair out. Then I remember I don't HAVE any hair. So I HAVE to be silly. Love the pictures of laid back lil' Skipper and serene Ms. Sophie! As for your friend, Gene, my heart and thoughts are with his whole family! YOU are - as always - such a generous, loving sweetheart! I know they appreciated the soup & muffins! LOVE YOU!

You do have a busy schedule and your canine kids seems so unconcerned!

The soup and muffins look wonderful and I'm sure Gene's family appreciated the love and care you stirred in. All are in my prayers.

It is so odd to think of Elizabeth Taylor being gone. I wasn't finished with her - or with Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, etc, etc! Life with Father, Little Women, and The Taming of the Shrew were my favorites of her movies.

Well done on your UFOs!

Hugs!

Probably National Velvet. Giant was good, too. First movie I really saw her in as an adult. I was a teenager and had never seen Rock Hudson and James Dean as young men in a movie before. And first time I had seen Liz Taylor as an adult but not as her very aged self. I said to my mom, "Have you ever heard of the movie Giant?" She looked at me like I was daft and said, "Of course!" I told her I now understood why everyone thought Liz Taylor was beautiful and why Rock Hudson and James Dean were so hot. It was a real revelation to me!

I loved her in Father of The Bride she was the most beautiful woman ever

I can understand her man problems , they probably tried to control her and she was not putting up with that

I guess I would have to say ... National Velvet. I liked all that I saw; but, that one really stood out! I agree ... with her passing ... glamour has left us. She lived HER life, and we'll remember her beauty.
