I arrived in Jasper, Alabama and checked into the Holiday Inn just minutes ahead of the snowfall. A handful of quilters were there ahead of me, and a few came dashing in just after I arrived. In all, I think about half a dozen of us decided to drive up ahead of the snow.
With two or three inches of snow on the ground, but clear-for-the-most-part roads, we drove the 14 miles to the camp after breakfast on Thursday morning without incident. Well, I had one incident when I drove too close to a dead skunk in the middle of the road about halfway to Camp McDowell, causing a gagomatic aroma to linger in my car all the rest of the way.
Then came the fun. It took me until almost lunchtime to get my car unloaded and my sewing station set up. Of course, I was pretty much zonked by then and didn't get much sewing done on Thursday. A couple of blocks sewn is all. The zonkiness lasted through Friday morning, with accompanying back, leg, and hip pain. But after a muscle relaxer, 800 mgs. ibuprofen, and an early afternoon nap, I felt better. The rest of the weekend was very productive for me and I felt pretty good. I was able to get my bunny rabbit quilt top (#14 on UFO list at right) done except for the borders and all my Autumn Whirlwind blocks sewn (#19 on UFO list).
Below is collection of photos of quilts in progress that retreaters were working on this weekend.
By Saturday, I was a little the worse for wear but still having fun. That's the Autumn Whirlwind blocks behind me. I got all the blocks finished for this quilt. Apparently, I forgot to photograph my bunny quilt top, so I'll show it tomorrow with the guild photos. (This photo by Judy Cloe.)
Nancy's orange quilt. I think she finished this top before retreat ended.
That's Elayne behind that gorgeous table runner made from Jenny Beyer fabrics.
Part of Rebecca's fantastic appliqued flower basket top.

Lisa's 1987 Land's End Sampler, AKA The Quilt From Hell
"Memories of Camp McDowell." Members of Birmingham Quilters Guild made this quilt several years ago and presented it to the camp. (I was in charge of the project.) The quilt now hangs in the dining room at Stough Lodge where we have all our meals.
The beginning of Judy's Once-in-a-Lifetime Quilt, or something like that--or maybe it's It-Takes-a-Lifetime-to-Make Quilt. (That isn't Judy in the photo; it's Ella.)
This sweet thing belongs to Peggy.
I don't remember who the maker of this gorgeous quilt is.
Becky's husband Ty's prayer quilt, made by family and friends. Ty went to Heaven last year.
Somebody's English Paper Pieced GFG
I can't remember who's behind this either, but I love the Provence colors and prints.
Sounds like a theme to me. This is my new tie-dyed t-shirt.
Lisa's pretty heart quilt for the baby of her friend from the Czech Republic

A cute little patchwork basket

Donna brought her Singer treadle machine.
Cyndi enlarged a motif from one of the prints in her quilt for her border.
Catherine's reproduction 30s cutie
We played Quilter's Bingo (this is one of the cards), Dirty Quilter, and Left, Right, Center. I got an Ott Light in the Dirty Quilter game, but won nothing in the other games.
I think this is Loretta's cute little tapestry kitty pincushion.
I know I am far behind on everything. I thought I would be able to post last Friday's UFO Progress Report from Camp McDowell, but it turned out that there was no WiFi, so I couldn't post while there. I think I'll combine last week's UFO report with this week's. So if you have progress from last week and this week too, you make two entries into Mr. Linky on Friday. More about that later.
I also have photos from my quilters guild meeting this morning. I'll post them tomorrow.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. Sorry to hear about the skunk. I hit one a couple of years ago and it was terrible getting rid of that smell.

Great friends, great fun, great food, great quilts, great retreat, great photos, and great to be home!
Donna's treadle Singer is just like the one I have from my Grandma Hall!
Love your Autumn Whirlwind guilt and your smiling face!
Oh! Remember the song about the dead skunk in the middle of the road that's stinkin' to high heaven? Well, you got your dead cat and you got your dead dog, and on a moonlight night you got your dead toad frog ... !
Rest up, the month isn't over!
Sweet dreams and hugs!

Hey, Barbara. I was just telling Andy about the skunk, and telling her it reminded me of that song. She didn't remember it, so I had to sing a line or two for her. She looked at me strangely. Glad you remember it too.

Your first sentences about the snowfall & other quilters dashing in caused me to sing Jingle Bells. You know - Dashing through the snow ...! Sorry. But it DID! LOL! First of all, I'm SO glad you had a great time! You LOOK gorgeous!!!!! And those quilts - how beautiful! I love quilts so much, and each of those is a work of art! The Singer treadle machine made me think of my Kaku (grandmother) who USED hers ALL the time and whose many kitties ALSO used it for perching when she wasn't sewing. This was a HAPPY post & I really enjoyed reading it and knowing my beautiful friend had a good trip (despite the skunk.)

Some really very cool quilts in that bunch! Clever setting ideas on a few of them too.
Love your pic! You should use it for a profile pic!
