UFO Bust: Week 4 Progress

UFO Rep

I didn't finish anything this week. But I did deliver two tops to the quilter, as I said before. And I cut more than half of the strips for the Bunny Quilt log cabin blocks. The pattern designer named this quilt "Garden Bunnies." I think I'm naming mine "Mr. McGregor's Garden."

BARBARA'S PROGRESS

This week, Barbara took five borders off of  her Tree of Life quilt (photo below), so named for the panel in the middle.

Barb1b

"It's strange seeing the quilt small again," says Barbara. (photo below).  "The borders were taken off because that yellow floral border called too much attention to itself,  I'd done too much detail sewing around the center panel to let the yellow stay, and the colors in the center of the quilt were more muted than the colors in those outer borders."

Barbara also made another little quilt for the Ami Simms Quilt Project (photo below), using a block she made in 1995. Although Barbara didn't list this block on her UFO list, it qualifies nonetheless. To learn more about the Ami Simms Quilt Project, a project to raise alzheimer awareness and fund research of the disease, click on the link above. These little quilts will go to the Houston Quilt Festival to be sold there.

Below is Mr. Linky. Please register your blog post if you have a progress report or thoughts about the UFO Bust.

Any of you blogless busters are welcome to send me your photos and reports each Thursday. So far, Barbara is the only one to do so. I'd like to hear from more of you who don't have blogs.

Susan, you sound (write) as if you are feeling better today. Hope that is the case.
At sewing class this evening, we made bags for Africa. A local church packaged up 100 fabric bags filled them with toiletries and delivered them last year. The bags were a bigger hit then the supplies. This year they are hoping to supply 500 bags of goodies. It made my heart happy to know we could do something so small to bring happiness to someone who has nothing.
No UFO to share. I'm still plugging along with my Dear Jane quilt. Row J, block 2! Have a happy Friday. Pat McDonald

This is a good quilt made our of great prints. I have to add that you made a good color combination that will surely compliments the color of the floor. Thanks a lot for having a good taste in choosing the color for your quilt. Great job.

Pat, my bee is making bags and filling them with toiletries for a local women's shelter. You reminded me that I still have to make mine before our Feb. bee meeting.

Love your bunnies and applaud the progress on the Log Cabins/Courthouse Step blocks that will surround them. Yes, Mr. McGregor's Garden is a perfect name for this delightful quilt!

WhooHoo! Two quilts to the quilter!!!!! Are the bindings for those quilts made and in a coil to await their use? My coiled bindings are still waiting for the spirit to move me and my two waiting quilts are right here (rolls eyes).

Thanks again for making my UFOs fun once more!

BTW, many, many of the itty bitty Alzheimer's quilts can be purchased from the website and you can see them there.

Hugs!

I love that little bunny quilt-no matter what the state of doneness.

Love the Tree of Life too--always a favorite subject of mine in quilts.

Barbara - I think you did the right thing taking the borders off. My eye is now drawn to the center, as it should. Are you going add borders using different fabrics or leave it as is?

Susan - love the bunny block! And the name you have chosen.

Everyone is doing great...

I'm working on another UFO challenge, but have my UFO quilt top completed and hope to finish the backing this month.

Hi Susan ~ I think your bunny quilt will be a winner...when you finish, of course! I'm so encouraged with the UFO Bust and just had to thank you for organizing it. Until listing all my UFOs and getting started, it had been FOREVER since I picked up x-stitch...and now I've almost finished two that had been in the works for years! Thank you for your part in that, Susan! I'm very excited that even more will get crossed off the list--accountability helps every time! Enjoy your weekend.

Barbara: That must have taken a lot of courage to remove so much of your work but your quilt looks much prettier without the contrasting borders!
Susan: I love your "Mr. McGregor's Garden" quilt. I agree with Deb, above, in thanking you for organizing this UFO Bust. What a nice group of ladies!
I can't seem to find Mr. Linky, and I know it's Tues. and I know I'm late, but I did a post today and this is my link: http://shadygroveadventures.blogspot.com/2011/02/ufo-bust-2011-last-weeks-progress.html Thanks again!
