And I found this. It's a little doggie ornament I found on sale at Hobby Lobby just before Christmas. I decided to not put it away but keep it hanging in my kitchen. It reminds me of a wonderful book I read a while back entitled Lives of the Monster Dogs. It's a wonderful book, and the doggies are not monsters at all, but great characters that you'll come to love. Click on the link to go to Amazon and read about it if you like.
The book has been compared to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and maybe with just reason. But while I'm a fan of Shelley's book, I think Monster Dogs is better. Maybe that's because I like doggies more than people--especially sewn together people and those who do the sewing.
The bad news continues to pour in. If my count is right, I have now heard of: 1 friend who has passed away, 2 friends who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses, 1 elderly friend who suffered a fall and an injury and was not found for two days, 1 friend's husband who is being sent home from hospital today with hospice care--and that's just since Saturday. I'm starting to panic every time the phone rings now.
As you can see, I did manage to hobble up the stairs to the computer this morning. The fatigue is better at least. And, for this present moment, the pain seems better as well.
In UFO news, I delivered two quilt tops (Noah and Charisma) to my local long-arm quilting friend Lena yesterday. Lena wasn't there, so I visited with Angela, her assistant. Lena was at the hospital with her husband Roy. He's the one who is being sent home today with hospice care. Roy, a very sweet and funny man, has been battling cancer for about 15 years now. His battle is coming to an end.
This will be the next project in my UFO stash that I'll be tackling. I'm hoping I might have it ready for my quilters guild's quilt show this coming June, but that remains to be seen. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I have all my bunny blogs hand appliqued and hand embroidered. I have some of the log cabin blocks cut out, but none of them pieced. The finish should go fair quickly with the piecing, but I so want to hand quilt this one, and I'm not sure I can do that before June. But maybe.
Thank you all who have commented and sent me good thoughts. What in the world would we do without our friends, both online and off?

Hi Susan,
Hope you've got the warm day and sunshine we have today.
How can a dog book be compared to "Frankenstein"? Since I don't like scary books, this may remain a puzzlement to me.
I'm so sorry for the bad news that is coming from all directions. As Mae West said, "Getting old isn't for sissies." and perhaps one reason is that our many friends age with us and all too many of them slip away before we're ready - as if we'd ever be ready. Hugs. Prayers for all, everywhere.
I've always liked your appliqued and embroidered bunnies so much but don't remember ever seeing a picture of how they'll go together. I love the pattern. This little quilt will have such personality!
Not one to stick to any one project for long, I'm quilting a 2nd itty bitty quilt for the Ami Simms project and have fabrics pulled and paired to make a little Valentine's quilt similar to the table-topper quilt Nicole made.
Be good to you!
Hugs!

Barbara, Monster Dogs isn't really a scary book although it is quite magical and haunting. It's about another mad scientist (a bit like Shelley's) who creates a race of dogs who walk upright and speak, have hands that work, etc. And very, very good book.

Working on UFOs, and seeing your lovely bunny quilt--I want to make half-a-dozen new ones instead of finishing something! I finished one project, but when I try to finish hand-quilting the leaf quilt, I can hardly even hold the little needle. Mrs. Engle or somebody said, "We get too soon old and too late smart."
Empathy for our friends who are stricken--I too have several.

Glad to hear that you are feeling some what better. Sorry for all of your bad news at one time. I've always heard it comes in 3's, maybe you are getting a double dose and the rest of your year will be brighter.

Thanks for the book recommendation. It sounds like something really different to shake up my reading.
Life gets difficult in clumps, it seems. January can make it even harder to process the hurt, I think - they long, winter days. Losing family and friends is certainly one of the tougher things to deal with, and as time goes on, we have more snags to cope with. Treat yourself, even if you think that it may not be the right thing to do. Make yourself as happy as you can :)

Susan, thanks for the recommend on the book. I will check it out. I like your dog ornament and that you're keeping it up. I am so sorry about all the bad news. Sometimes when it rains it pours. So sorry. My thoughts are with you. On the upside, you're pounding through your ufos!

Oh Susan, I truly am sorry to hear about your friends. Cancer is such a painful, terrible disease. The cure can make one so sick and fill like they are dying. As I've mentioned before, my dad beat his perotid cancer this past year. (Really amazing for someone who is 91 to make it threw the surgery and then radiation!) My beautiful sister has been battling throat and tongue cancer for over a year. She just got the results from her latest pet scan and has a cluster of tumors in her throat. Not good news. She has the most optimistic attitude and is more concerned for everyone else. I love my sister. I said a prayer for you and your friends. May the Lord strengthen each of you. Someone recommended a book to me and said it would make me feel really good. It is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I'll pick it up this week. If you can wait another week for me to finish it I will mail it to you. Are you interested? Blessings. Pat McDonald

Hang in there and keep praying, Susan. Life does seem to bring tough times in numbers. But, then there are so many glorious blessings to keep us focused and moving forward.♥♥♥

Interesting you mention Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" as that book, read by my 18 year old daughter only last fall, who had never read a book in her life, who, (gasp), 'hated' to read, triggered a love of reading and ranks as her all-time-favorite book...and now she always has a book in her hands! Your bunnies so mind me of Beatrix Potter's "Peter Rabbit"! They are adorable and beautifully done! My regards concerning your dear friends and loved ones who are suffering... and for you.
