I have a small fenced-in area in my back yard, very small. In fact, both dogs deem it too small for taking care of important business, like pooping and exercise. Walking them several times a day is very hard for me, so I decided I would fence in the entire back yard, which would give them lots of room to romp and explore--and poop.
So I began getting estimates. The first guy with an estimate called me a while ago. I almost fell off my chair when he gave me the quote. If some of the others can't do it more cheaply--at least 50% more cheaply--I think my fence plan will bite the dust.
My cold is still hanging on, especially the congestion and coughing part. I got some pills with guifenesen (sp?) to see if they would break up the congestion. So far, they haven't done much. Andy's still sick too. I think this is something a little more than the common cold but a little less than the flu.
I felt good enough last night to attend Bible study. For the past few years, our group has been doing Beth Moore studies (with video and workbook). This time, we doing a Priscilla Shirer study (also with video and workbook) called "One in a Million." I missed the first two sessions and only got my book last night, so I have some catching up to do.
Thanks for all the congrats for my sister Ramey on her Pulitzer nomination. We're still very excited. This is her very first book. She's already working on the next one though.
I'm going to spend some time in the sewing room today, cutting out lots of scrappy blue and yellow 5 1/2" squares for the bear baby quilt.

Congrats to your baby sister! That is something. I hope you feel better soon. We have got prices on fences too and it is awful. I feel for you!

Hi Susie,
Sorry you and Andy are still not feeling very good. Hope the weekend will find you both in better health. One thing that helps me is to lean over a small pot of gently boiling water to inhale the steam. Don't burn your face by getting too close, of course.
IMHO, fencing the entire back yard is essential to your good health. You know so many able-bodied men that I imagine several of them could put your fence up if you pay for materials. You can pay friends in pizza or hot soup and corn bread along with a yummy dessert and you know they'd be willing. Fences aren't inexpensive but if you can avoid paying professional labor costs, you'll be far better off. Remember to give these friends the gift of being needed and being allowed to help you.
If either Sophie or Slipper dig, perhaps chicken wire buried under the fence and attached to the bottom of the fence will keep the dogs in the yard. There may be a better method, of course!
Happy sewing! I hope to cut borders and sew today, too.
Hugs!

I agree with Barbara Anne! Betcha ANYTHING some of your neighbors would do the fence if you provide materials, & you could pay in treats for the labor! (Barbara, are you SURE we aren't related? No? I don't blame you if you said no! I AM a nut! LOL!)
