A Silk Purse From a Sow's Ear

I spent most of yesterday repairing and painting the corner cabinet that I bought a little while back. It's not the one above. I'm not sure where that picture came from, but it was on my desktop, and I love it. It's very inspiring and keeps me going working on my cabinet.

I'm usually very pleased with purchases that I make. I don't buy impulsively or in haste. But yesterday, when I began work on my cabinet, I had regrets that I had bought it. It needed repair, which I did, and painting was absolutely necessary. The inside of the cabinet had been painted black. And even the white outside was a little more than shabby chic--it was more like grungy grief. The bottom compartment looked like someone had shoveled dirt into it. So before I could do anything, I had to give the whole thing a good cleaning.

None of these faults were hidden. I could have seen them if I had looked closely. I think I was focusing too much on the table that I bought at the same time. I was so excited about it, I failed to take a good look at the cabinet.

But I'll just keep looking at that picture above to stay inspired and keep painting. Skipper stays right beside me while I paint. Yesterday afternoon, both of us were pretty much covered with antique white paint when we were finished. I got most of it off us, but we're going to have to put at least one more coat on the cabinet, so we'll probably get ourselves painted again too. Sophie stays clear of the mess.

My cold and sore throat are still with me. It turns out that we all caught colds at the beach. Poor Andy has to go to work every day with hers. At least Jesse and I can hang out at home and be miserable.

Watched season premieres of "CSI" and "Fringe" last night. Both were pretty good, but neither measured up to the excitement and quality of the "Criminal Minds" episode. In my opinion, "CM" is the best thing going on tv right now.

We've had to cancel our bee quilting retreat. Not enough people could make it to reach the minimum number required. I'm disappointed, but we'll try again later and see if we can get enough.

I still don't have everything put back in place that got moved for the carpet cleaners. So that's my goal today. And if there's enough spoons left, I might put that next coat of paint on my cabinet.

I look forward to seeing your new cabinet when you've finished resurrecting it to a happy, loved appearance. I think you'll feel it smiling when you fill it with pretty things!

My spoons have been in very short supply this week and it's annoying the stew out of me. I'd be happy to just veg in front of the TV. This morning I made a mess emptying a drawer so have to deal with that.

I'm getting a sore throat, too, so will join you and Jesse if you don't mind.

Bummer about the quilt retreat but hope when it is rescheduled, many people can come and you have an abundance of spoons.

Hugs!

I'm sooooo miserably behind answering blogs, so this once I will beg forgiveness for answering bits and pieces of your last posts all at once. First, I'm so glad Skipper is recuperating! He's so cute & you KNOW I think Sophie is PERFECT! Speaking of perfect, YUMMY PERFECTION is how I'd describe that handsome young man. (Yeah, I'm OLD, & blind in ONE eye. But I'm not TOTALLY blind! LOL!) Your beach time looked wonderful! And you are 100% right - Andy is a beauty! As for the cabinet, you can DO it! Take your time. There's no Cabinet Monster to spring out & terrorize you if you don't get it all done quickly! It's going to be gorgeous when you finish it! LOVE YOU!

Hope you're soon feeling better Susan. Notice you're not resting to get better but busy again with the paint: nice that Skipper keeps you company

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I was thinking about you while I was riveted to my seat watching Criminal Minds the other night. Wasn't it great? There isn't another show I'm really interested in but that one. That show I will get things done and my shower and be waiting when it starts. Most of the rest of TV is garbage. I wouldn't watch reality TV if someone paid me to.
