Rainy Pink Saturday

Pink1

For the first time since late spring, we residents of The Yellow House woke up to soft rain and rumbling thunder this morning. We've had rain since early last night. I love it--but the dogs don't. Skipper appears to share Sophie's aversion to water; neither one of them will go out for a nature call. They just sit on the porch and look disgusted.

Nothing turned out as I had planned yesterday, my plan being to work in the sewing room for several hours. But first, I went out to water the thirsty plants, birds, and animals, got tangled up in hose pipe and dog, and twisted my leg. I didn't fall and I didn't think I had hurt anything. But by the time I got into the house, my knee was killing me.

Whilst dealing with this minor but painful injury, a friend reminded me that it was book club day, a fact I had slap forgot. Now this just wasn't any book club meeting, it was the meeting in which we were to discuss my sister Ramey's new book Sweet Music on Moonlight Ridge. How could I miss that? But how could I be ready in the time remaining while dealing with a heat headache and a minorly injured knee?

I won't go into the gruesome details, but suffice to say that I made it. And it was a wonderful meeting. One of our best. Not only was there plenty of discussion of Ramey's book but also of haunted houses, race relations, magic, and quantum physics. We are a diverse and intelligent group.

On the way home, I stopped by our local farmer's market and bought fresh tomatoes, okra, and peaches. Back home, I walked the doggies, ate a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats, and read for a while. Then it was time for Diane, our mobile dog groomer.

Diane was tickled to meet Skipper and gave him a gratis mani-pedi before doing Sophie's much needed grooming. Skipper seemed happy to accompany Diane into the van, but as usual, Sophie did not.

The rain started just after our last doggie walk--well, actually, just before, as I recall. The streets were wet. After such an eventful day, we turned in early. I read a few pages of Black Hills by Dan Simmons before my eyelids refused to cooperate. And after a restful night, I woke to this wonderful Pink Saturday rain and two cold dog noses nudging my ears and face.

All of you lovers of pink must now visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for lots and lots more of pinkness. And may all of you have a glorious Pink Saturday.

I'm so glad you made it to Bookclub yesterday. It was indeed a good discussion. Today I hope to clean up the painting room, and I hope my bug-bites stop itching. Maybe the Thrift Store? I hope that's not where my mojo bug-bites are coming from.

Hi Susan,

Hope your knee is mending quietly and not being sassy. So glad you got yourself together to get to the book club meeting. Well done! Could it have been any better since everything about the meeting was right up your alley? Sounds like a marvelous group, too!

Your pink tray is so cute. Happy Pink Saturday to you!

Please send the rain this way!

Hugs!

LOVE that tray with the kitty teapot & tiny mouse! Could NOT be any cuter! I'm sorry about your poor lil' knee, but glad you made it to the book club meeting! Ramey would have missed you fiercely! Hope you feel better today! The rain HAS to be a treat! I could use some of that myself! LOVE YOU!

I so hate the heat headaches. Especially when they ultimately turn into migraines. I'm sorry you're limping along. I get twisted up in my hoses too. Your day sounds perfect to me. And you have the most perfect companions!

Hi Susan, I haven't managed to catch up on your blog of late and finally have had a chance to read through. How fantastic that you now have Skipper and Sophie is excepting of him. You have been having a tough old run of late and knowing that Vann's anniversary is getting closer is probably adding to that so much. I was reading you questioning whether you should be over the grieving process and start thinking in your own person but personally I wouldn't question yourself at all. You need to deal with things the way that you are as this is the right way for you. No matter what, Vann will always be with you, the house will always belong to the two of you etc. I think suddenly one day and it maynot be for years that you will notice you have referred to something as yours (not ours) and you will have done it so naturally it will have been right. It won't mean to say that you have forgotten Vann but it will tell you that you have accepted your great loss and are managing to move forward. Don't try to force yourself to do it, it happens naturally when you are ready. But the best thing is no matter when, Vann will always be in your heart.
big hugs Deb

Rain! I am so jealous! We had just a tiny little shower! Jennifer called me from where she lives ... not far from you and she has had rain most of the day too. We need rain so badly. That is a darling pink tray with the teapot and cat!
Hope you feel better!

Your tray and tea things are so pretty.

I want to wake up to a rainy day. It is still too hot and too dry here.

Hope your knee is better.
