New Kid on the Block

Budyy 1

Meet Buddy Blue, or Mickey Moose-Ears, or Charles Barkless, or Skippy.

Obviously, I haven't settled on a moniker yet for this little guy. Actually, I haven't even decided if he's mine or not.

My friends Marilyn and Tony found him roaming up Ziegler Road near my house on Wednesday. Since then they have combed the area, going door to door and posting flyers about him, trying to find his owner. I have posted him on my FaceBook page. So far, no owner has come forward

Tony and Marilyn took him to Dr. Rachel's office (Sophie's doctor) to have him checked for a chip and looked over. She didn't find a chip, nor did she find anything wrong with him. Funny, I found something wrong with him right off the bat: he still has his little jewels. Those will certainly have to go if he stays here.

Marilyn and Tony couldn't keep him, so I told them I would foster him until we could find his owner or a new home for him. But of course I've just about fallen in love with him. And while Sophie hasn't fallen in love, she is tolerating him pretty well.

He's a happy little dude and seems to be right at home here. In fact when I picked him up at the vet's office and got in the car with him, he got in my lap and went right to sleep. That's how we drove home.

He's house broken too. And he's clean and looks well fed and cared for. He doesn't seem like a stay at all. The only thing that makes us really believe he was abandoned is that he was found in an area notorious as a spot where people leave dogs. There's a local lady who goes there every morning and leaves food for the homeless doggies.

I did find a couple of fleas, so I treated the little boy with Advantix as soon as he got here--and gave Sophie a treatment too. Although I hardly ever have to treat her for fleas, I thought it wise since he had brought some into the house.

Buddy 2

At first I thought he was a rat terrier, while Marilyn and Tony thought he was a chihuahua. I only saw him sitting down and in his photograph. But now I agree with Tony and Marilyn. In fact, while researching, I found a photo of a chihuahua that looked almost just like him, white tip on his tail and all. He's so little, about half Sophie's size, I think.

None of us have heard him bark or make a sound since he showed up. I really hope his voice box hasn't been removed. Maybe he just hasn't had anything to bark about.

So that's the story of our new little visitor (or resident). If his owner doesn't come forward, I really think I'm going to keep him. I know, just what I need, another doggie. But he loves it here. It would be a shame to put him through any more trauma.

What a cutie! Our two favorite dogs were strays, our Basset had a collar and no tags and was found near an interstate, so we watched for lost dog ads. When none ever showed up, she was ours for 12 wonderful years.

Our Virginia Walker Hound, who we named Toby, was a throw away dog and had lived on his own in the woods for years. He even drank water like a deer. He was ours for only 10 months because of renal failure, but he was beloved and he loved us back. Toby also was barkless.

I hope Buddy Blue, Mickey Moose-Ears, Charles Barkless, or Skippy will be a good house guest (or resident). We had a neighborhood dog who was called Tippy because he also had a white-tipped tail. Consider what name you'll want to call out when he's across the street!

Hugs!

He looks like a Scamp to me... my bf would tell you to name him Wilson but I don't think he'll give up on that name because he tells anybody who gets anything new to name it wilson... including a friends new son lol!

You know he might be sent just for you ;)

He is a lucky little guy to find friendly people who will temporarily (or permanently) give him care and a home. Such a cutie too. With the economy so bad, I guess lots of people are abandoning their pets. Breaks my heart.

What an adorable puppy and what a sweet Mommy you are to take him in and show him love. Sounds like he loves you too. Sophie needs a playmate anyway right?
Good luck with him Susan. I could not resist either :)

Radar is another idea for a name, but I like your names better.

Someone has found a new home. His story is similar to my Piper's. He is a handsome little guy for sure.

The way hearts have been showing up in your life lately, I looked really close to see if I could spot a heart on this pup. If you use your imagination, the picture of his face with his ear standing so proud take on a heart shape, lol. He is a cutie.

My hubby marks him as a Basenji, or at least a blend of Basenji and...

It's a dog that doesn't bark.

I LOVE Charles Barkless, that just tickles my funny bone.

What a good heart you have. I hope Sophie will warm up to the idea of having a permanent playmate; he really sounds like one sweet little boy.

Toy fox terrier mix, with more black than usual. I just had one as a foster, who was mis-IDed as a Chihuahua. Not a Rattie. Hope he found a home!
