Happy July 4th to all my blogging buddies.
As some of you already know, my family celebrates this date for more than one reason. It is the birthday not only of American but also of my daddy, Gordy Ramey. He was born July 4, 1911, and passed from this life on January 15, 1977. But even though he's no longer here with us, we continue to celebrate his birthday every year. He would be 99 this year.
Above is a picture of my daddy (standing) sometime in the late 30s. Daddy was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. He spent his service on Cheaha Mountain, helping to develop the beautiful Cheaha Mountain State Park in north Alabama. The fieldstone walls and buildings that Daddy helped construct are still there. I love to go there and touch the stones that my daddy once touched.
Happy Birthday, Daddy!
Happy Birthday, America!

Happy Birthday Mr. Ramey!
Happy Birthday America!
I love the amazing and varied projects that the CCC undertook during the Depression that kept unemployed men working and at such worthwhile endeavors. The fact that so many of their projects endure to benefit generations of their fellow citizens is a wonderful testimony to the work of CCC men like your Daddy, Susan.
Hugs!

Another way that the CCC served is that, when WWII started, some 3 or 4 thousand of them were available for immediate conscription and service in the armed forces. Daddy was already out, married and sort of settled down at that time. He worked at a munitions plant and then at an aircraft company during the War--couldn't be a soldier because of an ambiguous lung condition--had almost died of pneumonia as a boy and retained scars and weak lungs.

Hi and Happy Birthday to your Dad!. So many of us were lucky to have had wonderful, productive, kind and loving dad's, I know I did and I still miss him. He would have been 118 this year, had me very late in life......and died way to soon as I was only 22. Hug those special memories and have a wonderful holiday.

Happy July 4th, Susan. My Dad was born July 4th 1903, and my Mam July 5th 1904. Both days of memories happy and sad.
Your Daddy was a handsome guy. You can tell the men were doing outside work by their tans.

My Dad was born on the 30th of May, 1909 Decoration Day or Memorial Day and baptized on the 4th of July so the family story goes. He would have been 101 years old this year. Nancy
