Mother's Day at The Yellow House

Monday 6

I hope you all had as pleasant a Mother's Day as I did. After Sunday school, I went to Lowe's and picked up the paint--everything except the kitchen, which I still haven't decided on. (Yes, I know not to end a sentence with a preposition; but doesn't "on which I have not yet decided" sound rather hoity toity? Or at least Damon Runyan.)

After Lowe's I went to KFC and picked up a bunch of comfort food (fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, slaw, biscuits), which is ok to do on Mother's Day. Andy was waiting for me when I got home. We had lunch, couldn't find a movie to watch, so Andy mowed the lawn for me, then assembled my second lawn chair. That child is paying for her raising these days. What would I do without her?

Sweet Amy also called me from Portland to wish me happy mother's day. That call added another jewel to a wonderful day.

After the lawn mowing, etc., Andy, Sophie, and I walked over to Paul's where several neighbors had gathered for visiting. Sophie especially liked that part.

The photo at top shows the beautiful journal Andy brought me. It looks like she picked it especially for the arrangement on the dining table. All I had to do was lay it down and take a picture. It's filled with Psalms and beautiful pages for writing thoughts and memories.

Monday 9

When Sophie and I went out a while ago, I wanted to take some shots to show you how my flowers are growing. The light was so flat (it's cloudy) that the photos really aren't that interesting, but I'm posting them anyway.

These zinnias (above) are still in their little seedlet cups. I have to get them (and a bunch of other stuff) in the ground this week.

Monday 1

Daniel came on Saturday and picked up my chair. He liked the fabric I had chosen for the valence. I didn't care much for the price he had chosen for the making and installing of the valence, but I agreed to it anyway. After running all over town looking for one piece of fabric, I have new respect for decorators--the combination of talent and hard work is worth their wages.

I finally got the entire sewing room packed up. Everything is ready upstairs for Joe to start painting this morning. Today I'll start packing the downstairs. First on the agenda is the china cabinet, which I dread. But it has to be done, and as far is a know, that woman is still on schedule to come and, in her words, "look at/purchase" it.

Anybody know how to remove 15-year-old holly bushes that are right up against the front of the house without tearing the house down?

You're riught, what we do withour our daughters.!! My son is good and will help, but I save him for heavy furniture moving..
Your flowers look nice, I still have a few to plant.
Decorators can be very expensive, I guess that's why my house is "eclectic" haha..

I'm happy to hear your Mother's Day was so delightful!

What a lovely book Andy chose for you. As you said, it couldn't be more perfect in color or contents, could it?! What you add to it will become an heirloom treasure for your family forever.

The flowers are so pretty! I love the Emerson quote (I think it was Emerson); "The earth laughs in flowers."

No decorator here, either, and we're totally eclectic in our decor. I was pleased with the pieces we had re-upholstered several years ago and with the suggestions the upholsterer made for piping and trim on cushions that make them look quietly extra special. Their skills and expertise are worth their fees - but not too often!!

Hugs!

What a lovely Mother's Day you had. Daughters are definitely a gift from God, aren't they? Wish I had one!! For the holly bushes, here's what we did. Hooked a gigantic chain around the bush. Hooked the other end to the back of the pickup. Joined hands and prayed that the foundation would hold. Floored the gas pedal in the truck. Left ruts but got the bush out!!! Hope this helps. LOL

The yellow petunias are lovely. I got some for myself last week. Glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day.

I bet Daniel is making up for the "reasonable" price he quoted on the slipcovers with the price of the valance. But, at least it is not something you have to fuss over and if you keep the valance hanging a very long time, you can call it money well spent!

If you figure out how to get rid of the holly let me know. We keep cutting it back and it keeps growing.
It is exciting to hear about all the changes at the Yellow House.

You did have a great sounding Mother's Day! And your flowers are amazing. I love those yellow petunias--so unusual. And aren't zinnias just the most cheerful flower?
