Field Stones and Flowers

Garden

I worked on this yesterday, planting the zinnias and verbena, and adding a few more field stones to the border. I used spoons that should have been saved for putting my house in order. But I knew I needed to get those plants in the ground before they began to die. As you can see, there's lots more work to do on it, but you wouldn't believe how much energy it has taken for me to get it this far.

Friday 2

Oh, and look to the right. Those are my Easter lilies that Loribelle gave me and Vann several Easters ago. Why is it they call them Easter lilies when they don't bloom until May unless they're hot-house lilies? Mine have buds and so do my neighbor's.

See those large fieldstones I'm using to border my flower bed? Leeds is in an area of Alabama known as the Cahaba Valley, named after the river of the same name. The valley is rife with these stones. Drive through the area and you'll see many houses and buildings built of them. Most of these were built during the first half of the 20th century. People would actually go out and gather these stones to build their houses and businesses. There is such a house not a mile from me. It was built during the 30s, I believe.

Well anyway, enough of that. I just wanted to give you a little history of fieldstone in this area. I picked up all the ones I've used for my border within mere yards of my house. I'm sure I'll find enough to finish.

Friday 1 Strangely enough, mingled in with all the fieldstone are these smooth river rocks, like the ones in the wire chicken. They're my favorites. How smooth river rocks got mixed in with fieldstone is a geological mystery to me. I'm sure there's someone around here who can explain it, but not me.

I have decided that I'm going to paint the front door of The Yellow House red. It should look much like the one below--maybe a little less startling a shade of red. What do you think?

Reddoor

I found this beautiful 5'x7' rug on Craig's List--never used, they say--$30. I think it would be beautiful in my yellow-and-blue master bedroom. I've contacted the seller and expressed interest.

Speaking of Craig's List, I still have my dining table and chairs, but this morning I had a couple of e-mails from people asking questions about it. I hope to get it out of here soon.

My projects for today are 1) to get my kitchen straightened up and 2) to finish putting the books back in the bookshelves in the bedroom. At least the books I'm going to keep. I still have lots and lots of books that I'm going to donate.

Have a great Sunday, everyone.

RED! What's NOT to love about red? (My favorite color!) And a red front door screams, "Welcome!" Love the garden, too! Don't make me go to Leeds & stand you in a corner, tho'! I'm worried that you are overextending yourself. Slooooow & easy does it! The rug is a keeper! I hope you and the seller can agree on a fair price!

Your garden will be so pretty when these lovely flowers grow and add charm! Hope you rested after the tiring activity of planting them so your spoons were replenished.

Our front door is a deep red and I suppose you'd say the red has blue undertones. We love it. I think red front door would look wonderful on your house and agree a less startling shade of red would be best.

Oh, I just heard my mother's voice in my head: "Red is the color, Any variation is a "shade" of red." Does your mother live in your head?

Love the rug and hope it's soon yours.

Fingers crossed that the dining room set is sold this week.

Hope you've reached a satisfying amount of your huge goal for today and have spoons to spare. You don't have to do it ALL today, you know. Kindle and a comfy chair may call you when your spoon count gets low. That's okay!

Hugs!

Wow! A red door sounds really cool. I can't wait to see you do it. Your garden will eventually be more beautiful in no time when those flowers are already in full bloom.
