Well that wasn't exactly what we thought it would be; but some good came out of it anyway.
I met Sally at her house and, with me driving and her navigating from her Mapquest directions, we zigged and zigged and dodged and weaved through North Shelby County until we found the fabric sale that we'd discovered on Craig's List. We were ready to do some serious quilting fabric shopping. The only problem with that is that all the fabric turned out to be decorator fabric.
We had fun looking through all the gorgeous textiles that were leftovers from a fabric store that had just gone out of business. We didn't expect to buy anything--until I saw this...
...and immediately could see wonderful slipcovers for my big chair and ottoman in my living room. Sally, a much better decorator than I am, agreed. So I bought the whole bunch: 27 yards for $40. Can you believe it. That's a mere fraction of what the fabric would have cost retail. Enough of a savings at least to pay someone to make the slipcovers. I've never made slipcovers, but I know I could do it. I'm just not sure I want to.
Twenty-seven yards is probably way too much for the project, but I can use what's left over to cover my new dining room chairs if I don't like what's already on them. Or make sofa pillows for the new couch I hope to buy some day, if I ever find one I like.
Back at Sally's house, she took me out back to see her eye-popping garden. When I walked through her back door, I could swear I was in a real English garden. It was beautiful; but unfortunately I had left my camera in the car. After showing me everything, Sally grabbed her shovel and began to dig up samples for me to take home to put in "my garden." I'm dreaming of the day when I have a real garden as beautiful as Sally's. Wish I had taken pictures.
On the way to pick Sally up, my eagle eye spotted a yard sale sign, so on the way home I stopped. (You knew I would, didn't you?) And it was a good stop. I purchased this lovely mirror for $5. My thought when I first saw it was that I would paint it white for the hall powder room. But I'm loving the gold more and more. What do you think?
So even though the fabric sale turned out to be not what we had imagined, the day was a total success. I found some treasures, was treated a tour of Sally's lovely garden, and I had a chance to enjoy several hours visiting with one of the best friends a girl could ever hope to have. Thanks, Sally, for sharing a perfect outing with me.

Love the fabric Susan. I'd say you had a super successful day for sure.

Oh! What a successful treasure hunt!
The decorator fabric is lovely and is just perfect for your ideas! It's always better to have too much fabric than too little, so rejoice! You can make those sofa pillows you mentioned, placemats, and perhaps a floor cushion for Sophie!
I vote you live with the beautiful mirror in its gold finish until you're certain you'd rather it be white.
Methinks that you and your camera will simply have to return to Sally's garden for photos. Okay? Maybe Sally will be your gardening mentor for your new garden!
Pet your new fabric for me!
Hugs!

Great finds! I'd leave the mirror gold for the time being. And Sally's yard IS so pretty even though I haven't seen it yet this year. I need to get her to my house!

Half - maybe MORE than half - the fun of yard sales is always the unexpected finds! That fabric is just fabulous! And I agree - leave the mirror till you are CERTAIN you want to paint it. I would have loved seeing Sally's garden! I always visualize myself seated on a comfy but appropriately ENGLISH (LOL) chair, reading in an English garden! Ahhhhh! It certainly wouldn't be HERE in Houston, tho'! HOT! Anyway, the main thing is that you had a wonderful time! LOVE YOU!

I'm getting ready to tackle a loveseat slipcover so if you have questions, I may be able to help. Most upholstery firms won't do slipcovers or charge as much or more than an upholstery job. That fabric has a very small repeat so you have plenty of fabric. It was practically a steal at $40! It is a one way directional so you will have to watch that when cutting out your pieces. You may even have enough left for some simple window treatments.
I say leave the gold frame--it has some nice brush strokes and besides, gold is a nice relief from all the pastels.

WOW that is a deal on that fabric Susan. It's so pretty. Did they have any polka dotted red?? That's what I'm looking for.
Love that mirror too. You had some good finds I'd say.

Wow! Did you ever score with that 27 yards of fabric! I am giving Sara my wrought iron patio set, consisting of a love seat and chair and coffee table. I sure would love to recover the cushions for her as a surprise, but can't afford the fabric right now. I needed that fabric sale!
