Waiting for the Weather

IRis

My yellow iris that I planted this week has presented me with its first gorgeous blossom. My sister has said I can come and get some purple ones from her yard, which I plan to do next week.

I'm beginning to enjoy this gardening thing. But just wait till the heat and humidity get here. Then it's everybody for himself, garden-wise. The weeds are probably just waiting till I'm holed up inside with the air conditioning. Then they'll begin to propagate like crazy and ruin all my hard work.

Speaking of weather, the weather people started mid-week warning us of a severe weather system that is heading our way and due to arrive tomorrow. Tornados, strong straight-line winds, and heavy rains. We need the rain, but I personally could do without the winds and tornadoes.

Our local Creek Bank Festival has been rescheduled for the following Saturday due to this impending weather. I plan to bake a rum cake for our WOW Bake Sale at the festival, so now I can put that off for another week.

So I think I'll spend today packing up the sewing room in preparation for painting. Joe said he would start upstairs and everything is ready for painting except the sewing room. Oh yeah, and the bathroom. I have to strip wallpaper in there if I want him to paint it. I still haven't decided. Wallpaper stripping isn't too terribly hard. But it does make a big old mess. It's the ugliest wallpaper ever made, so it's probably coming down. We'll see.

Beautiful flower! I'm tempted to try planting some of those. Hmmmm ... And I LOVE that speckled pot on the chair! I have a whole SET of speckled dishes from YEARS ago. They make me feel HAPPY! We are expecting ugly weather later today through early tomorrow. Ugh. I'll tell it to go RIGHT PAST LEEDS and not even THINK of disturbing my Susan! (And, my goodness, girl! WALLPAPER STRIPPING? Don't you overdo!)

Oh, should you perhaps need to take in your new porch set and put all potted flowers in the garage until the weather passes? I hear you on preferring nice rain to wind and tornadoes. Amen!

Stripping wallpaper is messy, but also so satisfying! Put some jazzy music on to play, don old clothes, get a putty knife (or two so someone can come to help!), and you'll be finished before you know it. You may have to wash the old pasted off the walls, but that's not too awful. Fortunately, bathrooms are generally small rooms!

Your yellow iris is glorious! I've found that gardening is addictive.

Hugs!

I'm hoping we don't get a lot up here in Eva! We're kinda in tornado alley. I've told my son he'll have to spend Sat. night with us (the #1 bad thing about a mobile home!). We do need the rain...if for nothing else but to wash away all this pollen!

I'm a few days late in commenting ... but I love love love your Coca Cola set. And red? I am so happy for your find.

Your iris is beautiful. I am so envious of those who have the gardening talent. I definitely do not. I have grand illusions of windowsill herb gardens and lush pots of colorful flowers on my porch, but it never happens. I can kill a plant quicker than you can say Boo! Glad you're enjoying the sunny weather.
