I need a new task chair for my office. The one I have is a hand-me-down and I have never been able to adjust the height. Therefore I'm always in an uncomfortable position when I'm typing or working on something at table height from that chair. And it's black. And it has arms, which get in my way.
I want a new one, and I want it to be pretty. And believe it or not, I want my new office chair to be pink. So, without knowing whether or not there existed such a thing as a pink office chair, I went searching.
I found this chair offered at several different places for several different prices. Target has it for $29.99, the cheapest price I found. But you know, that's a lot of pink, and something about the chair looks a little insubstantial to me.
I like the next one a lot better. Not so much pink, a prettier shade of pink, and something about it looks a lot more sturdy than the totally pink chair. Also, it's advertised to be ergonomic. That's important. It's $73.00, but I have a feeling it will be worth the extra bucks. I found it at Amazon.com. What do you think? Should I order the pink chair? Or should I act like an adult and just get another old black chair?
I found other pink office chairs (one made from bungee cord), but many of the prices were way out of my range, and many of the chairs looked like something George Jetson would be occupying at Spacely Space Sprockets.
There were also green ones, but I don't want a green one. I want a pink one. Tell me, am I slipping into my dotage, or is a pink office chair a reasonable thing to want?

If you wAnt pink SusaN have pink but definitely not that flimisy loooking first one, it looks like it would snap very easily. The second one is good and with your back problems you must have ergonomic so you can adjust the posture to enable you to sit correctly.

Love the chair - go for it. I have an ugly gray one and have been thinking of recovering it. A new one is a lot easier.

I think you are perfectly entitled to get that pink chair! (The second one). Whatever lifts your spirits and serves a purpose for you in comfort. It just looks right for you.
I've enjoyed your little adventure in re-decorating.

Go for the pink! If it makes you happy it's worth it. I have one almost the same as your second chair but in powder blue and i LOVE it! It makes me happy every time I go to sit down and work on the computer or sewing machine. I'm sure having a chair the right height will also help your back. Let's face it - we do a lot of sitting on those office chairs!
have a good Sunday!

Very reasonable! Those black chairs just scream "LOOK AT ME AND NOTHING ELSE" in a room. I have that black screaming chair in my sewing room so I know whereof I speak! My solution, albeit I haven't actually DONE it yet, is to make a 'cover' for it in a pleasing complimentary color....perhaps even a quilted back piece for umph....it's in my head anyway...

I'm all for the second chair! With your fibro, you need ergonomic so do yourself and your body a favor and get the one you like best, that is most comfortable, and that is adjustable.
With the black base, you can make seasonal covers for the chair, too!
I have an ugly grey chair, but have a chair cushion in the seat and an embroidered doily over the back and it's working for now.
Hugs!

I've seen folks make covers for the standard black ones. I'm considering that myself.

Those kinds of chairs are very easy to recover. Mine now is red! Buy whatever is most comfortable and then recover it in about an hour with a staple gun and your favorite fabric.

Pink sounds like the finishing touch for your room. Could I suggest, though, that you visit the office supply store and sit until you find a comfortable one? Pretty is as pretty does! If it don't feel comfy, it don't matter what color it is. The store could order your preferred color. When I bought mine, it never occured to me to ask about pretty colors. duh. I keep thinking I will make a slip cover for it. I don't think it would be all that difficult... pin baste it on the chair, etc.
Also, I bought a high back for shoulder support. A bit bulkier, but worth it. Just some thoughts.

Naturally, the first thing I thought of when I saw the Target chair (and I'm not berating Target because I ADORE Target!) was, "I think one would have to be under 50 pounds to feel safe in that!" I'm embarrassed to admit I actually broke a FOLDING chair about 2 years ago. Yes, it WAS flimsy. But of course, my derriere is also extremely - errr - ample. You are not at all large, but you DO need to be mindful of comfort with the fibro. That second pink one is LOVELY and looks sturdy! I hope you get it!

It is totally not unreasonable. Treat yourself to a substantial pink chair! You know you deserve it. And so does your back.

We opted for the pretty chair and regret it. As someone said earlier if the chair base is black you can put any color on it. We have a once pretty, but now garrish purple base for our chair - yuck!

To much pink? How can that be? The second one looks very nice!

Whatever makes you happy! Go for pink! I have a blue one I salvaged; it's also very comfortable. Don't forget comfort. And you can change colors by re-upholstering.

Hey..the adult thing to do is spend your money wisely on something you like and will enjoy for a long time - definitely pink, sturdy chair is the adult thing to do. Besides, the child in us loves the fun stuff.
