Remember my hutch that I painted white, and we had the discussions about whether or not to paper the backs of the shelves or maybe put fabric on them--and I decided to leave them white?
Well after seeing these photos in Cottage Style magazine, I've changed my mind. I'm going to paint the backs of the shelves a contrasting color. The only thing I have to decide is whether I'm going to paint them sage green like the walls, or pink. Do you have an opinion on this? Which one do you like best?
And look what I won on Ebay (below)! It's actually a wooden bed tray, but I'll either use it in my study/office or in the living room.
Won't it be pretty with my mama's teapot and cup (photo below) sitting on it, with maybe a pretty lace-edged napkin (I think I have one of those somewhere)?
Not feeling too pretty good today. I have been having severe attacks of hypoglycemia (or at least what appears to be hypoglycemia: weakness, shaking, dizziness, sweating, hunger). I have an appointment with my doctor next Tuesday to have my blood sugar and thyroid checked.
I'm going to miss book club today. Just don't feel like getting ready to go. The group is discussing Leaving Gees Bend by Irene Latham. The book is supposed to be for young folks, but you don't have to be a kid to like it. It's a very good story about a young girl growing up in tiny rural Gee's Bend, Alabama during the 30s. Yep, the same Gee's Bend that is now famous for its quilts.
Sophie wanted me to show you what I got her at Petco earlier this week. We haven't tried the tushee wipes yet, so we can't report on their effectiveness. Sophie sometimes (well, frequently) gets an itchy tushee, and I thought they might remedy the situation. We'll see.
According to Sophie, the cookies are super good. I twist them open for her, just like people like to eat our sandwich cookies, and give her one half at a time. (She doesn't get milk for dunking; her tummy's sensitive to milk.) I can report that they smell good, just like the human kind, but I haven't tasted them.
Below are a couple of photos from the same magazine as the hutch photos. These show examples of hanging plates on the wall. Just more inspiration.
Finally, in closing, I would like to say that, sitting here on my couch, I can hear the Indy cars on the track over at the Barber's Track off Rex Lake Road, just over the hill from The Yellow House. They're getting ready for the Grand Prix of Alabama. Just think: Danika could even now be tooling around the track almost within spitting distance of me.

Susan, I'm so excited to hear you've changed your mind on the hutch. You asked for our opinions, so here's mine: go with green paint over pink. Green is actually a neutral, pink is not. Think holiday decorating (Christmas, Valentines, etc.)---green goes with everything! I love to decorate with plates and have a huge collection of flow blue dishes on my kitchen walls.

Hi!
I think paint will be great since the solid color won't compete with the items on the shelves. I'd go with a slightly darker green that the wall color so the cabinet doesn't look backless. Look at the color strip for your wall color and go a shade or two darker from the colors on the same strip.
Love the plates on the wall! You find the best photos to share with us.
Say HI! To Danika for me!
Hope you'll feel much better soon and get some helpful answers from the doctor.
Hugs!

Ohh! I can't wait to see the finished result.
And, I don't know your pet, but my Doggie use to have the itchy tooshie problem too. The vet said her "anal sacks" were full and needed to be drained. She would scratch her behind on our carpet, the grass, or whatever kinda remedied the situation. The next time she goes to the groomer and/or vet have them clean the anal sacks out. If you get brave you can do it yourself... but I'd let someone else give it a go! It's very common especially in over-weight and older pets!
Good Luck :)

Paint the back of the hutch pink. Another shot of color in the room. I like that it would be a contrast to the walls. Your brown bear babies will look nice against the pink.

PINK is my vote for the inside of your hutch so you will have a nice contrast with the sage green walls! Your mother's tea set is absolutely GORGEOUS! And the tray? It makes me think of luxury! Ahhhhh! I'm glad sweet Sophie gets cookies 'cause 'her's a good girl & deserves 'em!' Hope the tushie wipes solve the problem. I'll tell you a funny thing via email when I am feeling better - it's sorta inappropriate for blogs but funny nonetheless! And YOU feel better! I can't even offer to go and take care of you at this point because I'm about as contagious as they come (not to MENTION contankerous) from this miserable walking pneumonia. Finally - are you applauding 'cause I'm about to stop writing? LOL! - no spitting on Danika! Waving? A GOOD thing. Spitting? Not so good. LOVE YOU!!!!

Susan why not go to Hobby Lobby and buy a few sheets of colored paper (in the scrapbooking area), in several shades of pink and green, and try them out in your shelves. That way you could see what you like, and even carry your favorite to the paint store to match.

Pink. I'd definitely go with pink. Can't wait to see your choice and results!

Susan, I vote for green but not the exact same color as the walls. A blending color. I am thinking of putting fabric on the back of my hutch. I know some bloggers who did it and it looks so nice.
I hope you feel better soon. Get checked out completely and get some answers.
Hugs and well wishes,
Jeanne

I meant to tell you, I have a bed or breakfast tray you could have if you wanted it. But it's enormous, which is why I've never used it. Yours is much prettier. I vote pink for the hutch. - Una

Love your idea of the plain color on your hutch! the plates really stand out against the green! and, oh, the pink tray you won is so pretty!! yes, your Mothers Tea Set would look right at home sitting on it!
Get to feeling better, Susan ... don't like the funky part, do you?
Pink Hugs,
Dee

I think green is also the color to go with. Pink looks too cutsie. I think Sophie will appreciate anything that you do for her to make her life more comfortable. She loves you and we know you love her. Take care.

I would o with a color other than the wall color. Seems to me if you paint it the same as the walls it would just look like open shelves. Your decorating is inspiring!

Pretty, pretty things! I love your mom's teapot. I have several, but none as pretty as that one is.
I can testify that the doggie cookies are very good. Last year while puppy sitting for our 2 grandpuppies while our daughter and son-in-law took a week long trip to Florida, I had a cup of tea and a cookie I found in the cupboard every day. Only to find out when they returned home, they were the grandpuppies cookies. No wonder they were looking at me strange when ever I had one. It was the family joke for the next year and at Christmas I received our annual "gag" gift from the family - a bag of doggie biscuits.
Hope you are feeling better.
Barb
