Pain Hurts

Pain-logo For the past few days I have had increasingly bad pain in my left shoulder and back. Thursday morning it got past the screaming stage. I called my doctor and he saw me. I feared I had a pinched nerve due to the degenerative disk problem. But, thank goodness, Dr. M. says it's muscle spasms. That news didn't make the pain any better, but it did take away my anxiety that I might need surgery.

Dr. M. gave me a new and stronger muscle relaxer which dulls the pain and renders me comatose for three or four hours after taking it. Then it begins to wear off, the pain comes back, I regain consciousness. But since I can only take it every eight hours, I have four or five hours in which I have to rely strictly on my ice packs and heating pad for what pain relief they give.

Lying down helps, so I plan to spend much of tomorrow doing just that. I'd like to cancel Silly Saturday until I'm feeling better. And it might also be a day or two before I post more details on the 1000th Post Giveaway. Please continue to leave comments, either on this post or yesterday's, for a chance to enter. And as soon as I'm feeling a little better, I'll post a photo of the prize. Thank you for your patience.

I hope you are feeling better today. Back pain is no fun and it can make life miserable :( Thankfully no surgery.
Take it easy and rest..I have found that a heating pad is a good thing.
Blessings,
Donna

So sorry to hear about your pain. I have been reading your blog for awhile now and even went back and read all of the old ones. I have really enjoyed it.
I have had back pain for 3 years and just this Tuesday tried a new Dr. I have been going to chiropractors because the pain started with a fall. This doctor is also a chiropractor but he uses a lot of physical therapy stuff. Well to make a long story short, Tuesday evening I could stand to wash dishes with no pain and was able to get out of bed the next morning without pain. Hopefully it continues. I also hope that you can find something that will help you with this pain. Having the fibro monster is way more than enoough pain for anyone.
Take care and congratulations on the "1000"

Hope you feel better soon. Sometimes we need a kick in the butt, or the shoulder, to remember to rest and take care of ourselves.

I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad, Susan. I have mild fibro and get great relief from a cream that you rub in called Flexall Plus. I wonder if that would help enough that you could take a less strong pain medicine that won't knock you out?

Fret not, of course it's fine if you take your time about the 1000 post info. and give-away. Just take care of you and sweet little Sophie.

In the Bas Bleu catalog I was looking at this morning, there is a book holder for folks with painful hands. Is that you? It's item #UC5982 if you still read real books! www.basbleu.com

Big, gentle hugs!

Susan - I'm so sorry you have to deal with this pain! Take it easy until it gets a little better, and I'll be thinking of you - a warm bath to soak in, and a good book to get lost in - that's my suggestion. Your body is telling you what it needs. - Sharon

Susan, I am a new reader to your blog and the sewing world in general. I have just started my first quilt. I hope you are feeling much better and soon. You might be interested in the Feb issue of Southern Living. They have an article about Blackberry Farms in the Smoky Mountains. From reading your blog, I think this will bring you some happy memories.

I feel your pain ... literally. My neck/shoulder/arm was injured a couple weeks ago and, only in the past couple days has the pain subsided. What it took for me was to completely stop using my arm for a couple days.

I hope you heal fast and feel better soon. Silly Saturday–as fabulous an idea as it is–can wait.

You are in my prayers; take care of yourself first. Put on that oxygen mask first, then think about others. You have a sweet heart and concern for others. You're an inspiration to me to just keep going, doing and enjoying every day, but rest and let the medicine do its work.

Just take care of yourself. It may take time to feel better so don't worry about the giveaway or anything else. Read your new Kindle and rest.

Sorry that you are in so much pain, Susan. See - no good can come from cleaning and organizing (just kidding). I hope you are feeling better soon, and congratulations on 1,000 posts!

Do take some time to take of yourself. You're aren't a whole lot of use to yourself or others when you're incapacitated with pain. Hope you feel better soon!

I dropped by to congratulate you on your 1000th post and I'm so sorry to hear you're in so much pain! Darn-it! You just take care of YOU and lay back and do whatever makes you feel better. Gosh, you've certainly made us all feel better many times along the lines of those 1000 posts. Wish we could reciprocate and bottle up those feelings and send them to you as a get-well elixir. Just take care!

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so poor, Susan. I hope you get to feeling better very soon. It is terrible to be feeling so poor. Take care of you.

Drat...you don't need those muscle spasms on top of other challenges. Hard thing is the patience needed to let muscles calm down. Been there, done that, so I can "feel your pain." Hang in there (but not literally!).

I also am having shoulder problems. I had a cortisone shot today. Don't know if it is going to help. I'm afraid the quilting-rotary cutting, etc. is making it worse. Sure hope you feel better soon. I love the blue and yellow basket quilt. Did you make it? Our guild did a basket block each month in 2009.
