At least not yet. Sophie and I are lounging in the living room, eyes peeled out the bay window, looking for the first flake of the white stuff. Last night, Andy swore it was snowing, but I think she was having stress-related hallucinations. If it was snowing at her house, it never made it the mile up the road to The Yellow House. But the forecaster still promise we'll get snow--and all the area schools have closed in anticipation. Didn't even wait to see it the snow came. They announced the closings yesterday.
Why do we get so excited about snow? We don't do that with rain, or hail, or any other weather phenomenon. When the weatherman tells us it's going to rain the day after tomorrow, we don't run out to the store and stock up on bread and milk, then sit around drinking hot chocolate, staring out the window to catch the first drop. What is it about snow that entrances us?

I hope a lot of you are getting ready for SILLY SATURDAY. Here's how it will work:
1) Choose one or more photos, projects, stories, etc., that represents the old definition of "silly" to you. (See Jan. 2 post for explanation of old definition.) It can be goofy, cute, happy--anything but serious.
2) If you have a blog, post your silliness on Friday night or Saturday morning. Then visit Blackerry Creek and post your link on the Mr. Linky. That will direct everyone back to your blog so that they can enjoy your silliness too. Also be sure to link your post back to Blackerry Creek. You are also welcome to post the "Silly Saturday" logo on your blog, although I confess I didn't create it and don't remember where I got it. I only remember that it had no copyright attached to it.
3) If you don't have a blog, send me your photos, etc., by noon on Friday and I will share them here.
Easy, peasy--right? We'll do this at least through January, maybe longer, to keep our spirits up and keep us laughing and being silly through this cold winter.
Off to prepare myself another cup of coffee. Then back on the couch to stare out the window some more. Happy Snow Day, everyone, whether you have snow or not.
Oops! I almost forgot: ROLL TIDE!!!!! Tonight's the night. I apologize to any of you, and there are some, who happen to be Longhorn fans. But Bama's gonna barbecue up some longhorn beef tonight. That's just the way it is. Sorry.

Well, I think the snow excitement is about this:
1. It's a rare occurrence for us
2. It's prettier than any other precipitation to look at.
3. It's more fun to play in than any other form of precipitation.
4. It's awesome to ponder that each snowflake is different from any other ... imagine that, really... just think about that!!!!
So, maybe you will get to enjoy snow today. I doubt we will, but who knows..

Hey Susan, I've got your snow! 6 inches so far with more still falling. I did go to the grocery store yesterday and got my milk and bread, just like everyone else in line at the store.
I'm more of a PAC Ten and Big Ten football fan but tonight I'll cheer for "Bama just for you. Dinner's a red theme in their honor, spaghetti and cherry turnovers.
Enjoy the game, I so hope you get some snow, it is fun!

It's been coming down here for two or three hours off and on. But I doubt we have an inch yet...just enough to make it dangerous tommorrow when the temps are suppose to fall below 10 degrees! (I just looked out and it's really falling here.)
I hope it doesn't ice over, electricity goes out and I can't watch the game...bummer. I would not be happy. Roll Tide!

I don't know what it is about snow. I'm originally from Oklahoma, and now live in East Texas. Texans slow way down when it rains. It amazes me. I mean, I don't expect them to go full tilt while driving in the rain. But IT'S RAIN, folks!

I'd like to participate in the Silly Saturday but don't know how to link up. Can you explain it...I've tried but when I do, it saves it to a picture, the pocture will add to the blog page, but for some reason I can't get it to add my side-bar. Thanks for your help.

We were expecting snow, then NOT, then expecting, now NOT again. Goodness! A person can get dizzy listening to the weathercasts. I think we are well prepared here - pipes wrapped, etc. & heat on. Water will be left dripping to be safe in this very old house. I LOVE snow and cold - do NOT like central heat tho' because it stuffs up my round head! It's my intention to participate in Silly Saturdays if I get ahead of myself this week with the editing. So far, so good! As for the game, I KNOW I should show some state pride and be cheering for the Longhorns but I'll let my daughter - a HUGE sports fan - do that. I LOATHE football. ALL sports, actually. So I will simply wish ALL the fans of BOTH teams a lot of fun watching! LOVE YOU & STAY WARM, you & Sophie!

Hampton called this morning around 11:30 to tell us it was snowing at his house...they're in Homewood. Katie got on the phone and said it was really just a dusting. Then Josh called about 2 this afternoon and was at Publix in Vestavia and he said it was coming down pretty good. They were all so excited.
