Clock Watching

Yellow monsterI don't know if I'm going to be able to finish this, but I'm going to try. I'm going crazy vegging out here on the couch. The back/should pain has reached new heights today. The meds last for about two hours, and I can only take it every eight hours. Got 42 minutes to go.

Yesterday was a good day. Hardly any pain. I got a lot done and thought the problem was over. I went to a funeral, did grocery shopping, put groceries away, prepped a new monster block for stitching, mailed out the 1000 Post Prize (watch for it, Carla) and packed a couple of boxes for the charity truck that's coming next Thursday. Last night, Sophie and I went for a long walk, then watched "Fringe" and went to bed feeling pretty good. This morning, however, I woke up with my back and shoulder screaming. Poor Sophie has had no walks today and has had to make do in the small fenced-in backyard.

I have an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon next week if I can last that long. My daughter tried to get me to let her take me to the emergency room this morning, but I don't want to resort to that unless i have to. Trips to the emergency room in this area are not good experiences as a general rule. Most take 5-6 hours in discomfort in addition to whatever is already wrong with you.

Hot sauce  Gotta go. Just 21 more minutes till I can take my meds. But before i got, look what I found at the grocery story: BamaNation hot sauce. This is in commemoration of Bama's 2010 National Championship. I love hot sauce and will probably eat the stuff. But the checkout lady at the grocery story said I should keep it as a collector's item. I didn't bother to tell her that my main problem these days is trying to get rid of all the "collector's items" around here. Look at the black-and-white houndstooth top. Just like Coach Bear's hat. Love it!

I hope all of you are having a great day.

Hi Susan, I must have checked your blog just after you posted this since I am the first to comment. Sorry to hear that your pain has come back with a vengeance - from the sounds of it you overdid it yesterday. I know what it's like when the pain stops - we want to get busy and catch up with all we've missed while we are unwell.
I hope that a visit to the emergency department won't be necessary - we have the same problem here (sometimes the wait is even longer).
I'll let you know when the package arrives - thanks again.

SERIOUS RECOMMENDATION: When you feel (or Andy feels) you need to go to the ER, call 911! They determine if you need emergency treatment, then they drive right up to the clinic door and take you in the back way. Before you know it, you're in a bed (not in a room, but in the back of the ER section), and they're calling your doctor. At least, that's the way they do it if you to go UAB, and I expect anywhere else.

You don't have to be on the verge of extinction to call 911; they're very helpful and sympathetic. Even if they don't think you're in immediate danger, they'll still take you to the ER if you want to go. Seriously.

Ooooh, Susan. You did enough for 2 days yesterday, so it's ok to lay back a little bit today. I have the hardest time keeping my daily to-do list in-sync with my physical reality.

as a fellow FM sufferer..I found this intriguing - "Tan To Fight Fibromyalgia?" http://ivanhoe.com/channels/p_channelstory.cfm?storyid=23225

maybe you could spend some time letting the sun shine on as much of your skin as possible (if there IS any sun where you are!) and see if that helps any..

Like Joanne said! Would one of your neighbors or a neighborhood kid walk Sophie for you when you cannot do it? Hope you feel lots better tomorrow or sooner.

Your new monster block is so cute! Well done!

I'd love some of that Bama sauce for DH. We have a signed painting of the Bear. Roll Tide!

Hugs!

Susan, I hope you begin to feel better. I have such bad back pain, hip pain and knee pain after so many years of lifting Amber. Of course I would do anything to have her back here with us and suffer everyday if I could just lift her one more time. I know how it is when you go to the ER in B'ham. I have heard them say before that they don't have any beds available, but if it is a real emergency they will find a bed! Believe me it has happened to us twice before, with me one time and with Amber before she passed away. Maybe you can take that pain pill now!
Blessings,
Donna

Susan - will keep you in my thoughts. That type of pain just drags you down physically and emotionally. Hope the drugs kick in quickly.

Good grief, girl! I knew something was up when your blog update didn't look updated! Can't even imagine the pain. What to do, what to do. Hold on until the pills are available per the clock and get some relief. More Santa cards arrived to me today and are soon to be with you; sorry if they are part of the clutter you're trying to get rid of. Smiling......

I hope you feel better soon. We used to have a doctor that every time we went to him he would say no matter what we were there for..........it just takes time. I pray for you. I watch my husband go through this so I can only imagine what pain you are in. He has had 2 steroid epidural injections but they haven't worked so far. I hope you get some rest and are soon better.

Oh, my poor lil' friend! I STILL feel like such a horrid friend that I'm not there to help you! Why, why, why do we have to live so far apart? Yes, I know you have lots of folks there who are ready & willing to help you, but you are enough like me that you HATE feeling dependent upon anyone and don't want to 'be a bother.' But because you understand that I suffer many of the same aches & pains, we could do for each other when one of us was not doing great. Don't WORRY about whatever you CAN'T do - just be as comfy as possible till you see your doc! I LOVE YOU!
