The Girl Can't Help It

Combo 1

Look what I just ordered from 44th Street Fabric Etsy shop! I'm going to make pillowcases for my very own bed with it. I don't even own any pillowcases that I've made myself, although I'm nuts about pillowcases. I buy them at yard sales and thrift stores. I like to mix and match them on my beds. I know that fabric is not something of which I'm in short supply, but I don't have any of this--and it's gorgeous. So while I was ordering fabric to make pillowcases for a friend, I saw this and now it's going to be mine.

Only a couple more days left in this year. 2009 will take its place alongside 1977 (the year my dad and Elvis died) as the two most awful years of my life. There have been other bad years, but these were the worst. Neither year was devoid of blessings, however. 1977 was the year I decided to go back to college, one of the best decisions I've ever made. 2009 saw the election of the first African American U.S. president. It was also a year of a huge outpouring of love and caring on me and my family. It's true: God never closes a door without opening a window.

I can finally see some progress in my efforts to declutter and organize my house. There's still lots left to do; but enough has been accomplished now that I don't feel that sense of immediacy, that "the walls are closing in on me," panic that I felt a few weeks ago.

Sophie and I are declaring this a Fun Day. No decluttering. I'm going to try to do some sewing, if she'll let me. I need to go to the grocery store, so I think I'll take Sophie on a walk in the park on our way.

I hope all of you have a fun day planned too. Or if not, that you make the very most of the day God has given you. There are blessings around every corner. Just take a peek.

It has been a very difficult year for you, no doubt. I like this fabric you've picked for your pillowcases. Actually, I have been loving bird prints lately like these. Those are just the cutest little bluebirds. Your pillowcases will be darling.

2009 was a dreadful year for you. 2010 can only be better.

Psalm 118:24 "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

You changed your photo, Susan! I noticed right away. God will bless you, strengthen and encourage you, thank you for sharing the year that was. I have been blessed, and have prayed for you several times.
Your prints are so sweet. Have a good day, looking for the joy in the journey. Little things can mean a lot!

What better way for Suzie to start her day than buying, yes, more fabric! This from a friend who has actually seen and stepped foot in your sewing room! I say go for it! Even I printed off your pillow case pattern and am considering making some for my "kids." Gee, I wonder where I could get some pretty fabric... ;-) Love you girl! You and Soph have a super fun day!!

The fabric is just beautiful and I can just picture it as pillows on your bed. This is going to brighten up your bed so much.

Have a fun day and enjoy. Yes we all should enjoy this day that God has given us.

God Bless You Susan
Hugs
Patti

OOOOOOOHHHHH! What delicious fabric - and calorie free, too. Yum!! You're leading me into temptation, you know ... I don't have that wonderful fabric either .... hummmm ....can I do without it?!

Thanks for the reminder that blessings abound and are everywhere whether you look or not. It's more delightful to look.

I also saw you'd changed your picture. Blessings, friend. You are really not alone at all.

Love and hugs on your FUN day!

The fabric is just gorgeous! Can't wait to see your finished pillowcases. Happy to hear you have made it through the holidys, I know how difficult it can be. I'm thrilled to see your review of the Kindle as I got one for my son who's an avid reader. Take care of yourself dear one, I'll be checking back soon!

I hope you have nothing but sweet dreams on those new pillowcases! I've had my hands full with Copper, between the snow, cold and no doggy daycare, my boy's been a pistol! NO daycare between Christmas and New Years, just like regular school!

I hope you got some sewing in today. I'm eating the last of our Christmas Eve leftovers, then it's Lean Cuisine for me!

I love the fabric and cant wait to see the pillow cases made. But what I loved most about this post was in the very last part about the blessings. Beautiful and true.

Susan, I hope you have a wonderfully fun day! And I just want to say...this year has brought me lots of challenges... but reading your blog and watching you face life's heartache with such grace and beauty has been so inspiring to me. Seriously, there were days when I was so sad...but then I would land on your blog and I always came away with something that would fill my heart. Thank you! God bless and have fun with those beautiful fabrics!
