I feel like I've accomplished lots today. I baked a rum cake and delivered it to my friend and neighbor Maria. I finished three pillow cases and almost finished a fourth. I'll finish it in the morning.
The pillow cases for for my little friends and neighbors Sissy, Sam, Andrew, and Jonathan who live around the corner from me. Last night they came with their mom and dad to deliver a giant platter of home baked bread, cookies, candies, etc., to me. (See photo above.) The oldest, Jonathan, is about 8 or 9, I think. Their mom, Becky, homeschools all four of them. She was admiring some of my quilts, and she made the comment, "I don't have the patience to do that." I said, "Becky, you're a homeschooling mom of four little kids. Don't talk to me about patience."
They are the sweetest family, and I love them every one. They really know what the word "neighbor" means. And they are good ones.
I'll photograph the pillowcases that I'm making for the kids tomorrow after the last one is finished. I'm too tired right now to do anything else except snuggle up and on the couch and listen to Sophie bark at joggers and kids playing soccer outside.
Hope everyone has a pleasant evening.

that's awesome.. such lovely neighbors.. aren't we homeschoolers the best :-) I love homeschooling b/c we can teach our children to be cheerful givers like that family is.. having them at home helps that .. although you can do the same even if they go to public school.. anyway.. that's sweet of you to do the pillow cases.. I can't wait to see them.. I want to do some pillow cases for my daughter.. but that may have to wait for her bday..

My goodness -- you've been busy! Your treats look yummy. Can't wait to see the pillow cases you made -- and I'd say some rest is in order after all of that!!

I wave at my neighbors when we meet in our cars but that's it. I grew up in a wonderful neighborhood where folks brought food over when someone died, kids played outside until dark, and Christmas platters of wonderful goodies were exchanged. Not here, not now, I miss it.
Enjoy those goodies!

You have been busy!
I wore myself out trekking through the snow several times today. The street is clear but the long driveway still has about 8" and some ice. It was 17*F this morning. Brrrrrrrrrrr!
It's the Winter Solstice: 1st day of winter, the shortest day, and longest night of the year.
Sweet dreams!

I have been busy baking too! 11 fruitcakes so far...5 bundt and 6 medium loaves. The postal workers at our nearby post office call me their job security. I host a lot of swaps and get lots of mail as well as mail out tons. They work so hard for me that I always take over a bundt cake each year. I went in yesterday to mail out 11 boxes and they were talking about banana pudding...When I opened their cake to show it they immediately started saying that the banana pudding was going to lose out! :)

Dear Susan,
Greetings from Central Maine! I'm glad you're keeping busy. I made pillowcases last year for my best friend--not this year, though. Making gingerbread whoopie pies instead.
I heard a poem called "Going To Bed" on NPR's "The Writers' Almanac" the other day. I think you might like it. This is the link: http://writersalmanac.publicradio.org/index.php?date=2009/12/18. (But you can just search by title on their site).
I hope your Christmas is filled with Christ's eternal peace.
