"All things on earth point home in old October."
--Thomas Wolfe
Very productive day yesterday. I got the dining room decluttered and cleaned, took care of some business, did some errands, and I still had energy left (not much) to take Sophie to Happy Hour at Paul's for a while. Nolan, Millie, Eddie, Cathy, Bonnie, and Brad were there--as well as the usual array of neighborhood kids and dogs. Then we came home and watched "Criminal Minds" and "CSI NY."
But today I'm not feeling so good. Upset stomach and aches and pains. I understand the aches and pains: fibromyalgia, change of season, plus too much housecleaning. But where did the upset stomach come from? Too much falafel maybe? Or was it the tabouli?
The WOW (Women of Worship) new Beth Moore study starts tonight at my church. We're doing "Esther." I'm looking forward to it. This time I'll be leading a group, not just sitting back and enjoying.
This is the first day of my favorite month of the year. Something tells me I won't be enjoying it as much this year as in the past. Something important is missing at The Yellow House. Somebody important.
The quilt on the dining table is a family heirloom. It's very old and very heavy. I decided it deserved to come out and be seen for a while. The crocheted doily is a family treasure too. Oh, and so is the wooden biscuit bowl.
I hope everyone had a chance to go by Kelee's Katillac Shack yesterday, watch the video, and leave a comment to help feed and care for our homeless furry friends. If not, it's not too late.
Happy October, everyone. Hope you have great plans for this God-given beautiful time of year.

2 rooms down! Keep up the good work!
I'm a fairly new reader of yours, and can't remember how I found you, but I enjoy your posts. I hope that you find comfort in your bible study, especially during this time of year.

I too love the quilt on the dining room table. What a lovely way to have it out where it can be appreciated. I love October too, but that's 'cause it's birthday month around here. Take care.

I'm a great big fan of October too :) Such a lovely month! The dining room looks great :) Love the quilts displayed and I neglected to say I loved the one (Bear Paws I think) that is hung behind your couch! Very pretty on all counts. So happy to hear that not only will you be attending the WOW series but that you'll be teaching as well! What a wonderful way to occupy your thoughts :) I commend you once again for your continued efforts to go forward. I know it's not easy, but baby steps will get you where you're going :) I'll head over to the site for the furbabies :) Happy day wishes to you!

Happy October!
Your dining room is so pretty and nicely decorated! The quilt is lovely as are the doily and biscuit bowl. The memories attached to each must warm your heart.
Applause for your success in your one room a day cleaning plan. Hope I can follow your stellar example. Alas, no quilts on flat surfaces here because two cats still have their claws and have the whole house to roam at night. One quilt with torn fabric and pulled stitches was one too many for me!
I leave myself post-it notes on future calendar pages as reminders of ideas and such. This morning I saw the note reminding me to use our odd cannisters for autumn arrangements. How odd you ask? Their labels aren't Flour, etc, but instead are Brandied Bat Wings, Tangy Turkey Tongues, Roasted Rabbit Rumps, and, last but not least Grits!! We bought them at the Pink Palace Crafts fair in Memphis about 30 years ago.:D
Hope you'll take it easy today, choose a simple room or take the day off until you feel better.
Hugs!

Your dining room looks beautiful. Good job Susan. I hope it is worth the pain the next day. I LOVE your quilt as a tablecloth. I enlarged it and the colors are lovely too. The bowl and doily is a great touch. Projects like this just make one happy. As for me, I need company to motivate me to tweak my house. I am getting company so my fall cleaning has begun. Oct. is my favorite time of year as well.
I visited the doggies and hope they make lots of money for their cause.
Hope your day gets better.
Hugs, Jeanne

You're wise to listen to your body. It must be telling you it needs some rest.
Your dining room looks so cozy and inviting. I wish I could come sit and visit for a while.
Take care, dear Susan.

Looking good Susan, but don't overdo it!!! You've inspired me too - today I've been cleaning out my storage area - why are we such pack rats? Oops I hear some more odds and ends calling me.....

Two words: PACE YOURSELF! It's WONDERFUL knowing you're putting your home in order and doing some of the have-to-do stuff. Just remember to temper all that work with some enjoyable, relaxing things as well! Your WOW group will REALLY be a blessing, I believe! And Susan! I cannot TELL you how thrilled I am to see someone ELSE using a cherished quilt as a table cover. I have done that for YEARS. I remove it (or cover it with a clear PLASTIC tablecloth) for eating, but I LOVE using the quilt that way! I've also used it as a tree skirt at Christmas! I LOVE quilts but the fibro AND leg injury make them VERY painful and heavy to use for sleeping. Incidentally, your dining room is SOOOO pretty! I enjoy peeking INSIDE the Yellow House!

How good your rooms look and I know it makes you feel better, too! I love Beth Moore Bible studies. I love Beth Moore! I grew up with her (her brother is my age and was a good friend of mine) and she is a distant cousin. Wish I could follow her around the country and hear her speak. She is inspiring!

Your house cleaning is going great! You must not have had much clutter to begin with!... I guess I just have too much "stuff." My sister and I like to "see" our stuff. Now it's time to go back through with the Swiffer after last week's tornadic cleaning spree. Love the quilt on the table! I've enjoyed Beth Moore studies and hope you do, too. Good for you for leading! Remember also to just "be."

Your dining room looks so warm and inviting, like open arms...truly, and that someone important is still there in your heart so not really missing at all, just away for a while. (((HUGS))) As for the housecleaning, with my Scleroderma, I don't have much stamina and when I over do it (which happens more than it should) sometimes I end up in bed for a day (or more) But we gotta do what we gotta do, right? You will enjoy the study of Esther, what a wonderful book.

Your dining room looks great and I love the quilt on the table. Very pretty.
I know how you feel about the holidays. Someone in my home is missing this year too. I am taking one day at the time without my sweet Amber beside me.
Blessings
I have began a blog you will have to visit. I hope it helps with some of my spare time I have now. :(

Yes, that quilt deserves to come out and be seen. It is truly beautiful. The quote by Thomas Wolfe is profound. I pondered it for quite a while. There is something about October, something about home. Sophie looks mighty cute in her "frock." Give those ears a tickle for me.

I came here from your comment on Antique Mommy. I Iost my husband in July. I've read pages of your blog and your reactions and comments make my grief seem SO NORMAL. It's like we are living parallel lives in different states. I'm also cleaning one room at a time (and I did give the recliner to someone who needed it and got a comfortable chair/ottoman for myself...saw that on one of your blog lists...) Reading your blog has blessed my heart tonight. You keep moving forward. I'll be back to visit your blog. Often. Blessings of peace on you.
