Hummingbirds and Halloween

4043415776_d0173a33c3 When Courtney saw the hummingbird pattern, she remembered my post about a hummingbird bringing me a message from Vann. So Courtney decided to use to pattern to make this special gift for me.

Using a piece of one of her husband's old shirts as the background, Courtney painted and hand embroidered the hummingbird and then framed it as a shadow box. Every time I look at it, I remember Vann filling the hummingbird feeders from spring till early autumn, keeping the juice always fresh for the little "hummers," as he called them.

Thank you so much, Courtney. It's a beautiful and thoughtful gift, and the perfect memory piece for Vann.

I got word last night that our neighborhood trunk or treat has been cancelled because ourTort_sophie_vann  host neighbor, Paul, is laid up with orthopedic problems. So Sophie and I will be giving out treats from The Yellow House. Sophie will be barking excitedly every time the door bell rings. The neighborhood kids know her and aren't intimidated by her barking, but if we get any visitor kids, I'll have to convince them that the little black fur ball is all bark and no bite.

Hope everyone is planning a great Halloween weekend. Isn't Autumn great? Halloween, football, big pots of chili and fritos. I always like to watch two movies during Halloween week: "The Shining" and "Hocus Pocus". I saw The Shining already, but I haven't seen "Hocus Pocus" yet. Hey, I think I remember a video tape of that movie somewhere around here. I go in search of it now.

I, too, have a black, barking Schnauzer-dog that will be welcoming all the neighborhood goblins coming for treats at our house tomorrow night.

Look at Soph licking her chops in that picture! Too cute! It looks like she's ready to get her some treats, too!! Woof! We all miss you, Uncle Vann!

What a beautiful thoughtful gift. I love anything that stirs up fond loving memories and the beautiful hummingbird is the kind of gift you will treasure forever. Have fun passing out treats to the little ones and I hope your dear friend is feeling better soon. We plan on a few trick or treaters but most of them now go to church parties, trunk or treat affairs and generally staying out of the cold if they can. I know we have far to many treats and that brings up a serious problem...I love all of them and I could be in trouble here unless I find a family member that will take them to work and put them in a 'help yourself' bowl after Halloween. Of course, I'll keep just a few for myself, LOL. The movie Hocus Pocus is sooooo fun to watch. I love the story line, the cast and the delightful humor. It's a great one and I also have it here somewhere, now I will be going of to search for it. Have a wonderful weekend.

What a beautiful gift Susan and what a wonderful job Courtney did creating it! Love the picture of your two blessings too :) I'm so sorry about your neighbor and friend moving and I sure hope that the new folks are just as kind and loving! Happy Halloween my dear :)

Oh! The framed hummingbird is lovely and the thoughtfulness that preceded it's creation is heart warming. How perfectly wonderful of Courtney and what a warm fuzzy hug for you whenever you see it.

Hope Paul feels better soon.

You reminded me I forgot to get Fritos at the grocery. Phooey!

Am washing border flannels before having hot buttered rum! I love autumn, too.

Hugs!

Courtney is one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people I've ever known! Her work is always wonderful, but it's TWICE as wonderful because it's just filled with thoughtfulness and love! It makes me so happy to know you two have become friends 'cause I love you both VERY much! Wish I could go to the Yellow House and visit with you & lil' Sophie while you pass out goodies! (But I'd have to HIDE while you watched scary movies. EEEEEEKS!) HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

What a wonderfully thoughtful gift for Courtenay to make for you Susan. There are some lovely people in the world aren't there.
